Then I'll just have to take a trip west and let you make me a meal there Shooter!     ;)

I can visit the nephews along the way...

Elk done up right, shot placement, cleaned and time to age and not over cooked... is every bit as good as beef IMHO.

I agree with you, That's why the meat pole shot. I skin them soon after the kill so they will cool quickly. Most were shot just before the end of shooting time. I will post a picture of the buck tomorrow when I cut him up. By the way, The BBQ Elk Steaks for lunch were DELICIOS.  ::)

Hey Buckshot,  congratulations, nice catch.  What kind of firearms, calibers, and shot distances?

I shoot a Browning A bolt in 280 Rem. 140gr. Barns TSX. all shots were from 80 to 179 yards.. The wife was shooting  Browning A bolt also in 30/06 with 180gr. Nosler Partition. Both of here shots were at 80 yards. We practice off hand shooting to 300 yards on a 12" steel plate. It has helped a lot as all the animals were killed shooting off hand with one shot. OK don't give me any lip. I know we should use a rest and we do if we have time. This year all the game was in the open and spooky.

Lip? If you can hit a pie plate at three hundred yards off hand, the only sound you will hear from me is applause because I sure as hell can't. If its over 100 yards in a hunting situation, I'll take the shot seated or not at all. A man has to know his limitations. :-\
