as others have commented, its good to have a definite location and "trigger" decided upon... there is an old agage in political science...if you place a frog in a pot of boiling water, he will jump out... but if you slowly add the heat over a period of time, he will boil to death, as the situation today was only slightly worse than yesterday....
for immediate tactical responses we have the OODA loop... observe, orient, decide, act
for planning SF uses the PACE acronym to identify multiple options... Primry, Alternate, Contingency, Emergency to categorize your reply to a variety of potential threats
a decision making format I used with my students is the "list-cluster-label" technique....
free think a list of potential problems 15-20 or so
in the margin of your paper, draw lines to a point from similar or related concepts... these points are your clusters
label the cluster
this will identify your major areas of concern
I live on the west coast of Florida, and my "bug out trigger" is pretty simple.. I plan on hunkering down for a Cat 1, 2, or 3 hurricane as my house has endured 125mph, but will evac to a relatives house with post Andrew building code in case of a Cat 4 or 5
I'm an old fart, so realistically for an EOTWAWK will bug in... am starting to put some staples away in long term storage, and head to the salt water coastal area to augment my protein needs
