I'm looking to buy a pair of Rossi lever guns in .357 and .44mag. I need opinions and help from those that own them. These carbines are going see lots of range time.

Is there a reason you are set on the Rossi line? Cost perhaps? Just asking. .357 and .44 Mag. lever guns are also made by Marlin, and they have a good reputation for longevity and good function-ability.

I have 2, Deepwater has one, and Crusader has one.  They all shoot very well.

One thing we have changed on all of them is the follower in the mag.  It comes with a plastic one.  Change it for stainless.

If yer gonna run them in comp http://www.stevesgunz.com/ shortens the stroke and slicks them up.  He also has the followers if you don't have access to a lathe.

Is there a reason for  .357 and .44 instead of .45 Colt ?

Even with the cost of .357

.36cents a round and up

.44 Mag.
.54 cents and up....

45 Colt gots them beat.. :'(
.61 cents a round and up....

I have been getting .45 Colt for years stocking up, and still cry. I love to shoot it....but I watch the dollars go down range.. :'(

Question:

Can one shoot .38's from a .357 carbine lever action? Might help with the cost....(slightly)...

That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

To the best of my knowledge, you can shoot .38 spl from a .357 carbine.

And you can shoot .44 special from a .44 mag (not that that saves money). Still the .44 mag is a vastly superior hunting cartridge to the .45.

Winchester is making the 92 again and it looks good but costs twice as much as the Rossi 92. Ouch. A pair of Rossis makes more sense.

I bet I can answer both questions after some thought.
The Rossi is a SASS legal Winchester clone, the Marlin is, well, a Marlin.
He may have .357 and .44, but not a .45

The '92 is being made in Japan these days.

If I had my druthers, I'd take the Italian Brazilian made Rossi and a boatload of ammo for the price of the Winny!

.02

Corrected....
