Because It's A Guy Thing, And We Would All Like To Do It..

Couldn't resist a post to let off some steam and smoke after the week I had. I just wish I had my old Camaro back sometimes...

We did this with our old hotrods back in the day,....glad to see the tradition never went away.....

Love it!!!

Basic rule for a performance car:  If it idles on its own below 1,200 rpm it ain't a performance engine

Basic rule for a mechanic, tuner or hotrodder:  If you can't tune a quadrajet or balance a Holley double pumper you don't belong at the track or cruising the strip!  Those are rodding 101, if you can tune a hemi you get your masters  ;D

By the way, the basic undergrad passing exam is to blow your small block chevy on a hole shot at 8:30pm, drag it home, overhaul it with spare parts in the garage, and be back to smoke the competition by midnight ... Central Ave. and Indian School Road, November 1976, Series 1 Chevy Luv, 350, .060 over, Edelbrock crossram with dual Quadrajets, slightly modified  ;) Powerglide, and 3.75 Detroit Locker  ;D

My '79 had a small block in it but in the winter, in Michigan it was two tons of fun for sure!

I bought that car brandy spanky new the month I separated from active duty and went to work for GM.  In less than three years I wore that car out...

Too f*#king much fun...

Mine was blue and white, but identical. 1972 Z-28. Bought it for $2500. Less than a certain rifle I want today... :-\

Loved it and regret getting rid of it.

Cue Ball 4 on the floor Hurst Shifter, Pioneer Super Tuner, "cassette player",....and all the old gearhead tweaks to the motor and exhaust. NO METRIC WRENCHES NEEDED.

Boy I miss that car. :'(

I never tweaked cars that much, was always interested in pushing the stock cars to their breaking points. I raced a flathead Ford in my folks' Renault Caravelle - and beat him (barely), mainly because the Renault could actually turn while moving and the Ford - not so much!  ;D The Renault had an 1100cc engine IIRC. Think 1 liter pop bottle - that was about the total displacement of that little 4-banger.  ::)

I had a Mercury Turnpike Cruiser (back when gas was $.33 a gallon thankfully) with a 383 that would smoke almost anything else if I pushed it to the limits.

I loved driving more than tweaking, although I rebuilt a '58 Mercedes 219 sedan. My one wish in life was to attend the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving at Elkhart Lake.

I had a record (33-1/3 RPM) that was nothing other than the sounds from various 6, 8 and 12-cylinder engines GT and Formula engines. Loved the sound of the big bore Chevys and Fords. When I get around to listening to Formula engines now, they sound more like 120VAC Singer sewing machines run at 240VAC.

That wouldn't be in Phoenix would it?

I got chased by the cops starting at that very intersection...many, many moons ago....it wasn't a very fair chase.
I should have slowed down a bit to give them a chance.

Never had the $$$$ to buy something like that and do it on the road but I had a blast in the winter with an old Ford Pinto in the mall PL before the days of the Mall Police!
