just picked one up this week and noticed that there is some serious roughness in the slide. I tore it down and there is nothing visibly wrong but after carrying it around the house with a snap in the chamber for a few hours to break in the holster I got with it it almost feels like the gun is jammed but when I give a real good hard push on the slide I can get the slide to unlock and eject the snapcap. Thoughts?

Maybe remove the barrel and spring and all that and just see how the slide moves on the frame.

Might be a dinged rail or grove?

Used to use soot to coat parts that would be in contact to see where they fit unevenly...been years so maybe there is a easier to use product for the same thing?

I use Dykem or a sharpie in a pinch. Did my 10-22's trigger free hand last year using Dykem.  Breaks clean but its too heavy

If it doesn't seem too bad, I would just grease and oil the hell out of the slide and run a couple of hundred rounds of stiffly loaded Ball ammo through it. Then give it a good, wet cleaning and relube. My guess is it will smooth out. 1911's are like that. A lot of the Les Baer high end guns require several hundred rounds to be run through them before they reach a 100% reliability level.

I had the new Springfield out to the range today. It functioned perfectly. Before I went I field stripped it and greased the slide rails, and lubed it up really well. The gun came apart and went together with no headaches. No problems with an overly tight bushing, or poor fit anywhere. I was just using CCI Blazer Brass 230 Gr. FMJ loads. Both magazines supplied with the gun ran well, as did a couple Wilson Combat 8 rounders I brought along. I also took along 5 extra magazines that I bought from Springfield. They were the standard blued 7 round models. All fit the gun perfectly and ran well. The Trijicon Novak Sights were right on with a standard 6 O'Clock hold at 25 yards. I really like the sights on this gun. They acquire very easily, and even in bright Sunlight the dots stand out. The gun grouped well off a rest with 3 to 4 inch groups. For me with my eyes, I'll call that good.

I put a total of 200 rounds through the gun with no FTF's or FTE's. The gun cycled reliably through all 4 boxes of ammo. The CCI Blazer was a bit dirty, and after I got home I disassembled it and gave it a good wet cleaning. Afterward I relubed everything and it reassembled effortlessly. All in all it was a good day with no surprises. I couldn't be happier with the guns overall performance.

Great news Bill...that's a nice 1911 and it's always good to hear "flawless" go along with "1911".

garand4life...try working the slide with empty chamber....if the slide is hard to work without anything in the chamber ... push the muzzle against a solid object, and try to pull the slide back... if it doesn't unlock, there is typically a problem with the barrel fit...too long in the hood area, too tight bushing, not enough link clearance, not enough slide stop to barrel feet clearance...

 with the barrel removed from the slide, place it in the frame, and push it rearward.. the slide stop should swing freely when placed in position

check that the recoil plug is in correct contact with the barrel, and no shock buff is in place

check the disconnector ditch under slide, and check and see how much disconnector is exposed, the top should be smooth and rounded

check that the hammer strutt and plunger is free to move in the mainspring well and not impeded with any form of firearm lock...see that the firing pin stop is rounded  and moves freely over the hammer

if the frame to slide (without barrel and recoil spring) jam in the rearward position, check that the rounded end of the frame clears

Dude I have the exact same 1911 and I love it. I have over 1,100 rounds through it and not a single hic up. The only thing Ive done to it was to get rid of the 2 piece guide rod with a single piece stainless unit.
