Hi all! I'm Stu from southeast Michigan. I've been a recreational handgun shooter since I was about 12 years old, but got out of it when I sold my revolvers in '79, during that "other" recession.
Flash-forward to the '90s; I've been running a mobile DJ company for a number of years. Suddenly the criminal element decided to single out bands and DJs for armed robbery. I'd been talking about getting back into shooting for a while, but my wife was cool to the idea. When we both saw a story on TV about a DJ being shot and his equipment stolen, she looked at me and said, "It's time."
So I got back into shooting, taking my CCW class and getting my permit (back before they changed MI law making it easier), and have been a Glock fan, a 23 in .40 caliber being my first (and still primary) carry pistol. Through my class and the range I shoot at, I became involved with several MI grass roots groups to promote gun rights. (We were the ones that got the law changed!) I'm still active with them. I've been carrying now for about a dozen years and still feel like a newbie!
LOVE downrange TV! You guys are the gunny equivalent of "Mythbusters" to me; you take a scenario, show the worst-case scenario, then show better outcomes and keep on ratcheting-up the sanity level until, perhaps, a shooting can be avoided altogether! I think this is "must see TV" for anyone who carries. I also like seeing some of the competitions out there -- something I don't often get to do here. (I was involved with a bowling pin league for a while. It was fun while it lasted!)
Anyway, that's more than anyone wants to know, I'm sure! Great site -- I plan on making it a regular stop!
Best,
~Stu
