Greetings from California. Yes! California!! I'm here to let the world know that not everyone from my state bases their political opinions on the fusion of Oprahspeak and marijuana. I heard about this site on the Downrange TV podcast and look forward to hearing all the opinions and goings-on in the gun community. Thanks Michael Bane for providing an outstanding podcast in addition to this site which I plan to use to discuss guns and to vent my frustration at The Mob, otherwise known as society.

WELCOME! and yep, this is a GREAT source of info and discussion.  JUMP IN!

California has nothing on NJ, PLUS our natural areas are small (YES we do have a sizeable number of parks, preserves, etc.- it's just that most of them are the size of a city park in most other states. A lot of it is farmland too - Duh!...the Garden State!...). Those of us who keep arms are considered "a little wierd", so it's really nice to communicate with folks who have more freedom in carry and use (you need to be a either a pro or retired officer to carry here too- anyone else it's nearly impossible to get a carry permit). It keeps us here from believing the "wierd" thing. Besides that, I think a lot more folks keep arms here but don't talk about it much.

You know, I kinda "commute" to  California — the OUTDOOR CHANNEL is in Temecula — and Ihave to say that two things strike me about CA...the incredible diversity of climate and how unarmed I feel when I'm, well, unarmed.

I love the Monterey area and would consider living there if 1) it would secede from CA and 2) I suddenly started earning A LOT more money! I did a motivational talk a few years back at one of the Pebble Beach golf resorts (I don't play as the balls do not explode...I love racing golfcarts, however) and I thought, hmmmm, the other half has it pretty good. All I needed was a Lotus and a "house arrest" ankle bracelet to fit right in!

I'm also fond of Mendicino, and not just from the Sir Douglas Quintet song. The cops of there are fans of SHOOTING GALLERY, the local microbews are excellent and even though you have to tippy-toe on some trails not to "disturb" the local growers, the scenery is magnificent.

Welcome aboard!

Greetings from the Tabletop State... er.... Nebraska. If you get lost, just stand on the bumper and look for the Chimney Rock. that's west.

Let's see... the centerfold bio....

Graduate student in communications, working on a thesis concerning firearms education and media accuracy. These days I'm a technical writer and editor, but in a former life I spent almost a decade as a newspaper (insert one of 100 job titles here). It's not much fun being one of three shooters in a newsroom of 120.

I like long walks on the beach, hot tubs, and the collected works of John M. Browning.

Love the Podcast, Michael. From what I've seen so far, I'm gonna enjoy the forum, too.

Hi,
I have just signed up and wanted to let you know that I have been visiting DRTV website for a few months.  I especially like the Sig videos.  There is a lot of useful info and some entertainment value also.  I have owned handguns, shotguns, and rifles since I was a teen.  I am now 56.  I have a CCW permit and carry about 98% of the time.  My preference at this time for a carry piece is the Kahr TP9, it is ready to go right out of the holster.  I look forward to reading the forums, and exploring this site.

Joe,
A thesis that includes "media accuracy"?   Wow, good luck with that one  ;D

Seriously, best of luck.   Letting others in today's news system know that you enjoy the Shooting Sports is a very brave move.  8)
