Sig P220, P220 Carry or P220 Compact
« on: April 04, 2007, 09:52:01 PM »
So many choices... please help!

I plan to buy a P220 in the near future, but all the choices are confusing me (maybe I just need one of each).  :)

I have not held a new Compact, but the size of the 245 was a bit short in the grip for comfort. I like the size of the Carry and the full size 220. I'm not sure if the 0.5" really makes a difference and they seem almost identicle. However, I think the fullsize balance is just a tad better. Does the 0.5" really affect the ability to CCW the larger fullsize?

Can you go wrong with any of them? Also, the new SAO version seems like a winner.

Thoughts please?

Just to confuse you more there's the 220 Elite

 and the 220 Combat

both nice carry weapons.

This day shall gentle his condition.

I just ordered a Combat TB and can't wait to get it. I also want one of the Target SAOs, but I need to hit a lottery number first. I also have a Compact on order...haven't decided what I'm going to sell for that baby (I may havde to write a gun magazine aritcle, heaven help me!).

I'm going to borrow a friend who doesn;t shoot anymore's competition tuned 220 for IDPA and USPSA.

The butt of the 345 was too short for me as well, but the minor change in the 220 Compact magazine solves the problem for me!

You guys are not making the decision easier.  :)  Any comment about the P220 in SAO?

Okay, Michael; I need you to clarify something for me.  I just picked up (yesterday) my new 220 compact carry.  Haven't even shot it yet; should get to the range mon. or tues.  Here's my question...  You've referred to the minor changes that they made in the mags...  Both of the mags that came with my gun are stamped p245.  Did I misunderstand, and the change is in the gun itself, are these mags modified from earlier p245 mags, or do I have the wrong ones?  Just curious, as I remember that this change was a big factor in how much you liked the gun.  Thanks in advance; I will post a review after shooting, which hopefully can make the previously mentioned (original topic) decision easier...

OK, slightly off topic - "real" P220 not a compact (which I am going to have to look into, BTW).

Michael, I got that slightly used Sig P220 .45ACP I had contacted you about a short time ago. I finally had a chance to go shoot it yesterday (along with my brand new DPMS carbine, but that is another post), and OMG what a nice piece. Fits my (small, girly) hands nicely, and I was able to hit in the black right out of the box. Thank goodness for the targets that go from black yellow when you hit them!

Slightly used was my initial and current impression. Not a lot of wear, mostly on the bolt by the ejector gate, and one of the little bent metal thingees only evident when you break the gun down. I think it is the top of the sear, haven't gotten that into it yet.

One difference with the newer pieces I did note is that there is no rail, but you can't have everything. Besides, I have a nice hand Surefire, going to your advice about always having a hand light so you don't have to clear a room pointing your weapon at a possible family member.

The mags on the 220 Compact have a slighly different basepad on them, redesigned by Ethan Lessert, SIG's ace weapons deisnger, that allow me to get a lull grip with my little finger, which solves a lot of the problem I had with the 245...suprisingly small amount of different when the 2 mags are laid side by side...

I'd like to shoot an SAO in competition, but that'll have to wait for a while...Ihave 3 SIgs on order...the P220 Compact, the P220 Combat and teh 556. The way my luck runs, all will arrive at exactly the same time...along with the bii. A friend of mine has one of the old SS 220s (at least he thinks he still has it), andif he does I'll borrow it and shoot it this summer. Or just shoot the Combat when it finally gets here.

I own a P220R carry which I bought NIB. It's a great weapon. Dead on accurate. 400+ failure-free rounds of Win white box 230gr, UMC 230gr, and Remington 230gr HPs.

The P220 and P220 compact are just as great from everything I've read about them. I think the P220R carry doesn't help much if at all in CC. The extra half inch of barrel on the full size P220 may offer better control and even better accuracy. I don't think you can go wrong between the three models of P220.

Good luck,

Bill

Is this Jim for Baton Rouge even a member here? I haven't seen him post showing the spoils of his ill gotten gain.

I cry foul and feel like this contest was an elaborate hoax to up the membership here. I wouldn't doubt it if Jim is one of your friends.

This contest was clearly misrepresented. I'd even go as far to say that you were accepting entries at the convention and could have cared less about whether or not the entrants actually visited this site.

The people that came here and registered for this giveaway should have the only one's considered for the drawing.

You whored yourself out to the masses when you allowed every Tom, Dick, and Harry to register from elsewhere. I watched the video like the other 600 or so entrants. 8000, how the hell can you say this contest was for "Downrange Television" members?

This is a sham and a complete misrepresentation of what a Giveaway is about. This was meant to bring attention to the site, well you got it. Now everyone knows what a complete hoax this really is.

I hope you have the intestinal fortitude to leave this up. You bet your hairy asses this is a case of sour grapes, I knowingly entered a contest that I had zero chance of winning. But I entered thinking I was on a level playing field. I was among my fellow gun nuts, helping a new site get off the ground. I expected honesty and integrity. I got neither. Good luck Jim! If you even exist. I think if he does exist he's a friend or family and is in on the con.

You can lock my account as I'll never come back.
