I Don't Always Drink Beer, But When I Do ......
« on: June 05, 2012, 03:36:06 PM »
Always on the lookout for something unusual in a bottle, I found this one.

BrewDog, the Scottish brewery best known for its 32% ABV (alcohol by volume) Tactical Nuclear Penguin beer, is back at it with another beer that not only shatters their previous alcohol content record, but also claims the title of most expensive brew.
Introducing 'The End of History', a 55% ABV beer that costs $765 per 12oz bottle AND COMES IN ITS OWN TAXIDERMIED KOOZIE.

You buy the first round.
I'm tapped out.
Here's the full story

And I thought $30 for a liter of Crown was expensive.

To be honest, those high octane beers just don't do it for me.  I tried a pint of the Double Bastard from Arrogant Bastard (10.5% abv) and I couldn't just couldn't choke it down.  Hell, between myself and my two brothers (all big beer drinkers) we couldn't finish the pint.  It just doesn't taste good.  It was like being punched in the throat.
Bravery and stupidity are often synonymous.  So are cowardice and intelligence.

"We Americans have been a rebellious band of freedom loving vagabonds from the very beginning. Our freedom from the crown and tyranny would not exist had it not been for the gun. That's a tradition we like to hold on to.  The same can't be said for the rest of you 'Subjects of the Queen'."--said to a Canadian friend who just doesn't get it.

You know what end it goes in before it comes out their mouth.  :o

Now if you want to try a beer stronger than normal give Maudite a go.   8% by volume.  Great taste and not harsh enough that you can't gulp it...but remember most beer in the US runs less than 5%...so you will be getting 2 to 3 times the buzz per beer.

Here is a review  http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/33

And here is who makes it.  I've not tried their other beers, but they are on my list.

P.S. I don't always drink beer either.....some times it freezes and I have to eat it with a spoon  ;D ;D ;D

Actually, most of the better craft brews are well above 5% ABV these days.  I find most domestic beers like Bud, Pabst, Miller, etc pretty much undrinkable these days.

We have so many good breweries locally now that I can buy a different six pack every week and never have the same beer twice in a given year.  I've really grown fond of the Dogfish Head beers.  These guys are real craftsman...

To heck with that beer. I can buy a whole lot of Jim Beam and Dr. Pepper for $765.

The Pacific Northwest has quite a few micro-breweries, in fact the engineer I sit next to is part owner of one down in Eugene.  So far I have found Rogue's Dead Guy, Fat Tire (not from the PNW but Colorado) and Daschutes Brewery's offerings top notch.  Not as good as the German beer I consumed twenty years ago but that might not all be about taste ;)

The German beer IN Germany is beyond compare (I've heard) but they don't export the good stuff!
