Sooooo.... Let me guess, that basically leaves the Ruger 10/22.

Anything else out there?

I am guessing Volquartsen still does or did make its own 10/22 receivers.

I tried  to shoot at some Appleseed  targets yesterday with my Savage 93 bolt gun in .17 HMR.

it is not all that well suited for Appleseed.  It's mag only holds 5 rounds.

On Brownell's, I did find a Bell and Carlson target stock that has the rail under the forearm, for the 10/22.  Just $300.

Remington makes several versions of the 597 including "tactical" rifles but I'm still a 10/22 fan. http://www.remington.com/product-families/firearms/rimfire-families/autoloading-model-597.aspx

Nothing wrong with the 10/22, especially the Varmint model.

Surely some other manufacturers make one that's box fed.

I shot 3 position small bore in junior high and high school.  I used the club's Remington 540 single shot .22.  It had a target stock with the rail in the bottom of the forearm.  So my left hand wore a thick leather shooting glove butted up next to the handstop and was kinda trapped in place by the leather sling.  I could get really locked in, and it felt good.

I'm gonna need all the help  I can muster judging by my targets I shot yesterday.
 :o

what is funny is that 3 position standing never used a sling, but from the pictures of other Appleseed shots I have seen, they actually teach and advocate the use of a sling while standing, plus to chicken wing the trigger arm.

Tyler... spent 5 years turning a $125 10/22 into a $750 10/22...just say the word ... not that sure of the Appleseed format, but I always like to help others spend money... it's good for the economy

Les, Appleseed is basically 3 position sling supported.
Same as they taught in the Marine Corps.
The course was originally focused on M 1a and Garand, but they let you shoot what ever you have.

..........

Tactical Solutions.  The box mag pretty much zeroed you in on the 10/22 platform.  I thought HK or CZ may have had something but...I didn't see anything with them in a box mag.  My Tacsol barrel is a real tack driver if I shoot without the brake...the brake spreads the grouping in mine.  And yes, I thought the brake was foolish for a 22....WRONG.

Stay away from the Fajen adjustible stock.  I have one and it's really heavy.  I wanted something adjustible for hunting...but the Fajen is strictly for bench unless your budget is like mine.

There are plenty of 22 AR platforms out there .  A bit more expensive than a 10/22 but box fed and semi-auto.  The MP clone is in 22 also. http://www.hk22rimfire.com/

NRA rules, you can't use a sling standing.  What I find unusual about this is that since the experts claim a sling provides no help in standing, then why expressly forbid it?  If I feel more comfortable with it, then why not let me use it?

I don't find a sling helpful in sitting position since, from shooting air rifles I've adopted the "arm cradle" position.  It might be helpful prone, but only if there aren't any natural supports around.
