When some one suggested satirically that in light of "Fast and Furious" it was possible the Obama regime were behind the Colorado theater shooting I snickered and blew it off.
The possibility exists however that we owe this temporary victory to the 41% increase in gun sales and CCW applications in Colorado since that event. (I heard somewhere that it is 50% now ) and the fact that it is an election year.

Your not quite right there guys....
The did not refuse to sign it - they said they needed MORE TIME to read it...
FAR FAR FAR different from we won't sign it.

Quote
According to Colum Lynch, UN reporter for the Washington Post and Turtle Bay blogger for Foreign Policy Magazine, the US isn't actually refusing to sign the ATT. They and the Russians are putting out a joint statement saying that they need more to study the proposed treaty. From his Tweet on the subject, "UN diplomat said Washington wants to put off action on a new arms trade treaty, after the US election."

From his blog:

The United States upended a major international treaty negotiation, telling foreign delegates at the final session today that they needed more time to consider the pact. Some diplomats said that Washington is seeking another six months, pushing off any decision on the politically sensitive treaty until after the U.S. election. Russia, Indonesia, and India also asked for more time.

Thomas Countryman, U.S. deputy secretary of state for international security and nonproliferation, informed representatives of the U.N.'s 193 member states that the United States still needed time to consider the text.

He continues:

The United States told delegates that it did not have "core" objections to the draft treaty under consideration, but that it needed more time, saying that while the U.N. negotiations have been playing out since July 2, they only received the final text in the past 24 hours.

Don't jump to too many conclusions... you may break an ankle when you fall back down.
I don;t believe its over - just postponed.

The Alinskyites know they have time. They can sign this and then pass it in the senate in a lame duck session after the election even if bho loses.

Very dangerous people we are dealing with here.

It's not totally dead yet and If obama loses all bets are off and if he wins he has nothing to fear by overruling congress and a snake in the grass at best. Be very aware of what the snakes can do and with the likes of Schumer, Pelosi,Boxer and Frankenstein never count the out.
CCW and gun sales are going thru the roof after the tragic event in Colo and people want to protect themselves and the only criminal breaking any laws that night was a idiot that did the tragedy and if the apartment had went up with the bombs he left the story would be much worse.  :'( :-[ ???

NRA: We Killed the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty
Posted on July 28, 2012 by Robert Farago

As TTAG predicted, the United Nations failed to agree on an Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). Click here to read the non-treaty that President Obama didn’t sign—as Dick Morris so publicly predicted. If not, rest assured that the attempt to make U.S. policy on international arms trade an international standard doesn’t even feint in the direction of violating Americans’ Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Oh sure, it could be used as a lever. In theory. In reality, the ATT was DOA pre-arrival. It never stood a chance thanks to the National Rifle Association (NRA) and, to be fair, all the other gun rights orgs who exploited the process to scare their members into donating money keep their members focused on their gun rights.
The NRA high-fives themselves after the jump . . .

U.N. ATT Conference Comes to an Impasse

The Conference on the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (U.N. ATT) has broken down and will not report a draft treaty to the member nations.

This is a big victory for American gun owners, and the NRA is being widely credited for killing the U.N. ATT.

For nearly 20 years, the NRA has worked tirelessly to warn American gun owners about the United Nations’ efforts to undermine the constitutional rights of law-abiding American gun owners by putting in place international controls on small arms.

NRA became a recognized Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and has monitored all U.N. activities that could impact on our Second Amendment rights. As a result, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre testified before the U.N. (2012 remarks, 2011 remarks) making it clear that the NRA would fight any international treaty that included civilian arms.

NRA worked with our allies in the U.S. Congress and successfully assembled strong bipartisan opposition to any treaty that adversely impacts the Second Amendment. On two occasions NRA was successful in convincing a majority of the U.S. Senate to sign letters to President Obama that made it clear that any treaty that included civilian arms was not going to be ratified by the U.S. Senate.

Yesterday (July 26), Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) gathered the signatures of 51 Senators on a letter to President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton opposing any treaty that infringes on our rights. The letter stated “As the treaty process continues, we strongly encourage your administration not only to uphold our country’s constitutional protections of civilian firearms ownership, but to ensure–if necessary, by breaking consensus at the July conference–that the treaty will explicitly recognize the legitimacy of lawful activities associated with firearms, including but not limited to the right of self-defense. As members of the United States Senate, we will oppose the ratification of any Arms Trade Treaty that falls short of this standard.”

NRA members made their voices heard on this issue as well, calling their elected representatives and urging their opposition to the treaty.  As a result, 130 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have voiced strong opposition to the treaty.

During the past week, it became increasingly possible that the Conference would fail to come to an agreement on draft language.  On Thursday, the Conference President produced yet another draft of the ATT in an effort to salvage the process. The new draft, like previous ones, was wholly incompatible with the Second Amendment rights protected by our Constitution.

The proponents of the treaty have goals that are clearly at odds with the American Constitution. Their refusal to remove civilian arms from the treaty was one major issue that led to the breakdown in negotiations.  The U.S. delegation made it clear that they could not move forward with the language as it had been drafted.

While this conference has failed to complete a treaty, the proponents will not give up.
It is likely that a new conference will be held in the future and NRA will continue to fight to protect the rights of American gun owners.

NRA maintains its steadfast opposition to any treaty that includes civilian arms in any way.  NRA will continue to work with our allies, particularly in the U.S. Senate, to insure that the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is not threatened by this or any future international treaty.

FWIW,...I know there were other groups rallying to make this known and a hot potato....they deserve every accolade and appreciative gesture.

The Libs, and anti's around the globe fear the NRA,...despite its faults, and tendency to hype an issue...but if it keeps the Soros funded IANSA (that successfully disarmed England, and uber regulated Europe and Australia),...RE: Rebecca Peters,...(who got fired)...for failing in the U.S.

I say good.

When the Libs whine about the power of the NRA, they know it represents the majority of the real citizens of this country...and the Libs damn well know it.

The UN can pound sand,....

The fact that it was rushed to a vote before they knew for sure it would pass, after spending 20 years getting it ready, means that it was nothing but a smoke screen to hide the fact that they are screwing us some other way.
And the NRA is full of crap. this is not a big victory for gun owners, it is nothing but one hit in a sparring match.
Our enemies will just tell more lies and keep reintroducing it until a generation is dumb enough to believe them.
Look at "gay rights".
It started out with "quit beating up queers"
Now you are portrayed as some sort of hate filled pervert if you don't cheer for gay marriage.

To an extent your right tom...

However, Bush put the kibosh on this in 09, and yes it came back like a bad base of the clap...

The notion of a UN that won't try to get it's fingers into the American Pie of 2nd Amend. Constitutional Rights granted to us, the simple citizenry of the United States, by our Creator,....is laughable.

They simply will regroup and try again.

You are correct, we "won" the round, but not the fight....A "generation" dumb enough to believe them may be a hard sell.

With record gun sales in this country, record CCW permits being applied for, record youth in shooting events, and yes the full of crap NRA's involvement, is a backstop...

Pray it never falters, for if it does, the consequences will be great.

There is hope...

My 17 year old son can field strip and accurately fire everything I own. Even the bastard Mauser bolt. I have taught him ballistics, MOA, safety, reloading, and a whole host of other things shooting related, including "Aim Small, Miss Small"

Aim Small, Miss Small...

"If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not so costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no chance of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

"You are correct, we "won" the round, but not the fight....A "generation" dumb enough to believe them may be a hard sell.

Look around, they elected a 143 day Senator, of questionable origins, with no job experience and associates who were communists, domestic terrorists, racists, racketeers and corrupt politicians, based on the fact he didn't speak Ebonics when he read off the teleprompter, and the meaningless phrase "Hope and Change".
And after 4 years of blaming Bush, labeling all opposition as racist, incompetence, arrogance, lies and corruption they are trying to re elect him with a former communist slogan, "Forward".

Dumb enough to go along isn't that much of a stretch at all.

Once again you are spot on and correct...An optimist would hope for and envisioned and  "awakened" electorate...A negative portion anyway is the "Where's my free shi*" and the Obama "stash" following supporters that will not relent, and vote for BHO regardless,.

Yes, the literal 40 something % (almost half) of this country simply does not "get it"....it's a damn scary number.

We may not recover, as a nation, we may be too far gone...

I hope I'm wrong, but will fight to see she does not go down quietly...

In the honor of my Grandfather,....RIP,.....he would expect nothing less. I'll take an old school pissed off sailor anyday.
