SOF has used suppressed 22s before, but I don't know if they still do. I haven't read the post in depth but from what I saw briefly I was very impressed with.

so is the 10/22 the best way to go? I know I see lots of add on goodies for them. last 22 I had was a marlin mini mag.

I'd put my Remington 597 up against any 10/22 any day of the week! And its 100% stock.

If you want the ultimate in accuracy though, you need to stick with a bolt action (I like the semi-auto for shooting squirrels b/c of faster follow up shots). There are many bolt actions to choose from, but the high end models can get pretty pricey - $500 and up. If you look hard enough you can find a nice 597 for under $150.

   I haven't Shot either rifle but I would lean toward the 10/22 due to the after market items available,You can buy "replacement", "Tuned",or "customized"parts for everything but the actual lump of metal that has the Serial number. You can replace the stock and barrel, and replace OR tune the lock as well. And the introduction of the charger opens up matched rifle/ pistol options as well.

You can actually buy the lump of metal with the serial number on it, I know Volquartsen does, some will take screw on barrels for extra rigidity. So like a 1911, you can start off with nothing and replace everything without a stock part on it.

So after really looking at used .22s I found a Mossburg 702 in a pawn shop (new) for 117.00 the almost new 10/22 was 175.00 I like the plastic furniture on the mossburg plus it has a floated barrell and great iron sites along with a receiver modeled after the marlin 60. 18.5 barrell semi 10 rd. Anyone have any thoughts on the mossy? and what range should I get out of the 18.5 with decent groups , say 3 inches.
