Question for you South GA and FL boys

Thanks.  Any suggestion for best beach sunrise?  We may hit Miami very early.  Long way home and one of us has to work Monday.

Any beach will do. Sunset its Naples, sunrise Miami. Drive till your tires get wet then park.
Wish I was going to be in Naples this weekend, I'd take you fishing. If that changes, I'll PM you.

Personally, I'd blow off the beach sunrise. A sunrise is a sunrise, besides, they happen way too late at night for my tastes. . Drive the Tamiami trail in daylight. Its one of the prettiest roads in the US. You move from mangrove swamp to cypress swamp, complete with birds, orchids and gators. It really is a nice drive. If you need to make time though, drive 20 miles north from Everglades up 29 and hit 75, then its 70 MPH to Miami on a four lane and you're there in an hour. Not as pretty, though not bad, but if you're doing it in the dark who cares? Do take a boat tour out of Everglades though. A regular boat or an airboat. Its relatively cheap and the 10,000 Islands are not to be missed.

PS If you drive 29 to 75 OBEY the speed limits (45 after dark, 60 in daylight). Its a Florida panther sanctuary, and Fish and Wild Life patrol that stretch. They have zero sense of humor. And God help you if you hit one. You'd probably be better off shooting a cop.

We'll definitely drive it in the daylight.  We plan to relocate from the 10,000 islands area to another side for day two.  The main reason we were thinking sunrise is because we need to hit the road really early to get home at a reasonable hour anyway.  That'd give us a little more time to explore Miami and head home.  I generally try to avoid too many sunrises. 

I'm also going to find a boat somewhere.

Gotta disagree on the sunrise on the east side of Florida. I've never seen it look like it does there, anywhere..
Can't describe, but I'll try..
It lasts about 10 seconds.. The rays of light "criss-cross", like a cross hatch pattern from horizon toward over your head.. If you're not looking, you'll miss it. If you ever see it, you'll remember it..
When I lived towards Tampa, on a Friday night I'd head over to Daytona and catch it, then pass the time crossing back to the Gulf to watch it set. From G'ville, I'd go over to Crescent Beach and work back to Cedar Key..
Don't miss the sunrise, just get settled and looking east a half hour before the sun crests the horizon, and wait for it..

Nice post Santa. I used to fish the beach at Blowing Rocks in Jupiter in the VERY early AM hours when I was younger and hardier and thought 4:30 was a reasonable time to hit the alarm if snook were involved. Those sunrises were beautiful, but I'm older, lazier and I've made my peace with the fish (plus the damn Nature Conservancy bought the place and you can't get in till 8AM ). It is worth seeing ( I enjoyed them when I went sailing as well). But frankly, a good West Coast, or better yet, Key West sunset doesn't suck either. And in Mallory square, the bagpipes and the sunset are great.
