It might be interesting to note that many gun dealers supported the GCA of '68.

To them it was a way to eliminate the competition of mail order gun sales.

If this is true, might it be supported by dealers already established in the Class III market?

I think you'd find that if 922R were to be repealed, many American gunmakers would scream bloody murder (particularly in the AR market) as they wouldn't want to compete with what would be a flood of $350 Chinese AKs. Its just human nature, and as Adam Smith said, whenever three businessmen meet they conspire against the public interest. Every businessman hates regulation, unless it helps him, then he's all for it as "sensible regulation".

Regulation almost never helps... Unless you payed for it.

Did you guys have to pay a tax to get into the voting booth on November 6th?

Could I see them trying to do put them as a Class III, of course.   I can totally see the "logic" they would use and say.  They are not banning them, just expanding the 7 day waiting period to about 9 months if you are lucky.
But what would the private sales do?  Do I think the gov't would be thinking of that, No, but we will cross that bridge later.  Hell I can see them creating a Czra position.   What is just troubling are the "what ifs" that's out there with the next 4 years or any judge appointments.
I figure there will be other rumors swirling out there in the next months or years about what will be coming down the road.  I just did not know if anyone heard anything similar.

I don't know what their status is now, but there used to be a National Alliance of Stocking Gun Dealers.  These were the guys who are/were against the "gunshow loophole" and kitchen table FFL's.  They had partnered up with the Violence Prevention Center.  The NASGD are the guys who own the actual brick and mortar stores.

And of course there are the old rumors on the internet that will never die.
I still get panicked E Mails warning me about the "Blair/Holt" bill, HR45, that nevr got any sponsors years ago.
