Tyler,
Just buy the truck you feel comfortable in. Sit in it, drive it and haul your significant other in it in a test drive. Put the equipment on it you want and need. You don't need to get 4 doors if it is just you or your SO. Have a larger family, or take your fishing buddies with you, then consider them. Otherwise, those extra 2 doors, added seats and extra body length add serious weight to the truck. That will mean less gas mileage, more wear and tear on running gear (especially 4WD) and brakes, plus you have to get a larger garage to put it in! My preference is the Ford F150 (I own one: 1996 SWB 4x4 w/small V8, AT, AC and P/W/B) and runs fine plus it does fit in my garage. I guess I'm trying to say that my advice is don't fall for a truck you don't need because you find a great price; look for the truck you need and want and buy it. You'll be happier in the long run.
As for not buying a Chevy or Dodge truck (with the built in gun cabinet) because the government bailed them out...the government also provides single women with free contraceptives so you won't touch one because of that? In a way, that's letting the government tell you what not to buy. So what else do they subsidize we shouldn't buy?
