Damn billt, could you imagine the panic if they pulled a Ronnie Barrett, (suspended all .50 BMG sales to California LEO's) and just said "all gov't ammo contracts, except to active military, sales are postponed till further notice".....

Oh I would love it.... ;D

This is getting kind of close.  Only sell the cops the same stuff that is available to civilians.

Effective today, in an effort to see that no legal mistakes are made by LaRue Tactical and/or its employees, we will apply all current State and Local Laws (as applied to civilians) to state and local law enforcement / government agencies. In other words, LaRue Tactical will limit all sales to what law-abiding citizens residing in their districts can purchase or possess.

The containers pictured are shipping containers the feds purchased, they meet all the requirements for air transport. My task force has about 8 of them, we use them to store rescue equipment or used for a quick deployment by air. The reason folks are seeing numerous containers in areas is the feds made them available to agencies (Fed./State & local) at a reduced price to be used for what ever their needs are.
I don't rember who said they would take bolt cutters to gain access, all I can say is have fun with that - they are a very secure container and gaining access other than using a K-12 saw or torches would be a difficult task. Just my two cents.

I don't have any use for Infowars, I've never found them to be reliable, and this is a good example.
The sensational headline says DHS bought sh!t load of ammo.
But in the article it says, "A solicitation posted yesterday".
In other words they haven't bought squat , they are shopping for potential future purchases .

Good feedback about Infowars. I found another source, too.

Infowars may be OK for heads up type stuff, but I would not trust them with out verification like you found.

Tom is right here. If you take into account the amount of people employed by the Dept. Of Homeland Security, the F.B.I., A.T.F., and D.E.A., who carry duty weapons, then divide that number into the amount of ammunition these agencies are purchasing, the amount per individual isn't that great. I'm betting members of this forum have more stockpiled if you employ a, "rounds per person" direct comparison.

Also, along those lines it takes a couple years to get a major solicitation through the approval process, so this RFP is for delivery in 2014-15 or even later.

billt,

See your point, as many employees in DHS, FBI, ATF and DEA that don't carry still undergo annual live fire weapons training in preparation for deployments to dangerous areas. Those people chew up a good bit of ammo themselves. But with so much ammo on order at one time, supply control is paramount and prices for the same civilian counterpart ammo goes up (not that that would be the intended objective of our federal government).

the funny thing is, creating a shortage is the best way to increase demand for a product. the more the feds" try to tighten their grip the more star systems that will slip through their fingers..."
