GSSF - River Bend Gun Club - GA

Just got back.  What a great day for shooting.  Very overcast  73F.  No rain.  Just perfect for shooting GSSF.

It's a good thing I shoot Competition first as a warm up, cause I did absolutely lousy  with my G34.  Thinking about selling it.  I shoot so much better with the G17.

First, I'm blaming the front sight.   I got something on my FO front sight and replaced it with the standard Glock dot.  Problem is it shoots a little high with the FO rear sights.   That's my story, at least.

In Comp I scored 105.77 which is just high enough to place me ahead of anybody who DQs.

In Amateur/Civilian my total score was 78.39.   Couldn't believe it.  Thought I had done much worse.  Slightly better than last year and based on last years score sheet that should put me in the top 15.  I choked on the plates.  Remember the front sight?

If you haven't tried Glock outdoor it's a great introduction to action shooting.  Simple, clean, minimal equipment.

alfsauve... keep the G34...try a set of non fiber optic sights... I use a Heinie slant pro rear, but had to go to a Dawson front sight to get enough height to lower point of impact... mine is .240" tall, .090" wide ... if you have your load worked out, you can fine tune the front height by gluing a piece of flat plastic (like formica ) to cover part of the teeth on a wide mill file, rest the formica on the rear sight as a guide, and carefully file the front sight... this gives a parallel cut, with a slight bevel...

the added sight radius of the G34 will become more valuable when you shoot longer range targets... at Ft Benning 3 gun, it was not uncommon for a 30+ yard plate shot...

if you are not already shooting 147 grain bullets, give them a try... they shoot half the group size in my G34 compared to 115s....

I've got the stock Glock 3dots on my 34, that came with it.  I may change out for some Fiber optics.

Great idea on loads. I've only used 124gr. I may get some 147s and do some accuracy testing. Have never used 115s anyway.

Preliminary scores are posted already.  I'm 30th out of 262.  They have me at 77.39 which normally would be close to 15th place, but there were some really good shooters.  Especially the juniors.

 Brian Hampton, junior male shooter was 2nd overall with 56.93 !!!!
And Andrea Boone was high jr lady and high lady at 78.49.  

I'd not be surprised if these two aren't high jr shooters in idpa/uspsa/sass.  Andrea was 5th fastest on plates with 17.19, beating Brian.

Okay it's that time of a year.     The River Bend Gun Club in Dawnsonville, GA holds a big GSSF match just for my birthday.      This year, I qualify as a super senior.

Based on my score sheets I scored 70.26.  Didn't do as well on the plates as I had hoped. (24.49sec - was hoping for < 20sec). Still that makes me a "page 1" shooter. (First page of the printout.) I'm hoping I'll be in the top 20 (out of 350+) and specifically the top Super Senior (65+) shooter which is worth $75.  (I've probably jinxed it now, though most of the top older shooters I talked to this morning were either Master class or Guardian division, so maybe there's a chance.)

For those not familiar with GSSF matches, generally the overall winner is under 60secs, but anything in the 60s is pretty good.  I've got a ways to go, though this is my best score in 6 GSSF matches.

Having just got a G34 - and joining GSSF - have you changed the sights?
I HATE the stock Glock adjustable.

Too wide, too much white for my eyes. (All my other stock G sights got changed too except for the tritiums)
Been searching around for another adjustable that has stuff the stock doesn't - - like 'click values' and 'predictable adjustments', and a groove that isn't as wide as a drainage ditch.

Going to try it with the sights blacked out but I think these are on their way to the trash bin.

As Alf will tell you, I am not a Glock fan, but the last time I went to Scottsdale Gun Club, I blasted a 1-inch hole at 15 yards with a Glock 34. Maybe there is something to these weird Austrian guns after all...

I have both the 17 and the 34.  The 34 has stock sights.  But I swapped out the 17's for fiber optic (front red - rear green.  My preference so I remember which end the bullet leave out of.)

My 70 score was with the 17 and the FO sights!   I scored 86.52 with the G34 in Competitive division.  So, yes I'm a big fan of FO sights, especially outdoors where they really light up.

I was looking at this set. I want to see them in my hand (they're local) to check the width of the front sight and the rear notch.

Been playing with different springs too. More testing on those...
A new 6# trigger spring on my gun wouldn't allow the trigger safety to reset when the reduced power firing pin spring was in.
Factory TS is back in place and everything resets properly. Need to put the factory FPS in and test the new trigger spring and see if there is a difference.
One thing about Glock triggers, if you know what it's supposed to feel like, you can tell when it's not right.

Wow the folks at GSSF have got it together.   Compared with years past where it might take a month, they have the scores posted already.

I am #17 (out of 259) in Civilian class.  THE ONLY ONE who CLEANED the targets (no penalty time)!!!  Only 4 Master class shooters did the same, but they shot in other divisions. (thankfully)

Bummer is a guy named Mason Murphy out shot me by 6 points to claim high Super-Senior.  Maybe I'll win a gun in the random drawing.  (just what I need another gun.)


I mis-calculated my Competition division and did worse than I though, 93.17, finishing 77th.  But then that's my warm up division.

So more practice and on-ward to the nationals in September.
