Colorado Gun Laws for Travelers
« on: July 25, 2013, 11:09:00 AM »
Is the information on the following website still valid with the recent changes in Colorado laws?

http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite/StatePatrol-Main/CBON/1251594549010

I know I don't have reciprocity there, but I want to be able to at least carry them through there.  This website seems to make that appear easy.

**Edit** I double checked my reciprocity and I do have reciprocity there.  I must have gotten it confused with another state.

Glad to hear you are covered with your carry permits!

To the main topic:

Regardless of state legislation it CANNOT override federal Safe Passage provision, which states that if you are legal where you start, and legal where you end, you can transport firearms through a state with stricter laws.

M58. While you are correct, there are a few places that do disagree and will make your life hell.   nyc and dc are the 2 that come to mind.   remember you also must comply with storeage requirments in that state.

Besides nycity,Albany will also give you grief if you try to check a handgun on an outgoing flight if you don't have a NY carry permit.

Boston is another city that thinks that federal laws only apply if they like them .

TAB,

If your gun is unloaded, cased, and in the trunk or in the rear of the passenger compartment of a pick up, suv or van, AND you don't do anything stupid you will be fine.

New Jersey ignored this law a couple years ago when a storm delayed flights and the airport refused to keep the gun case.  However, it was all cleared up after a bit of pain, but the good news is that law enforcement nation wide got the education.

Nobody wants to be a test case, but we can't live our lives like Californians because there is corruption in law enforcement.

Not so in Boston, NYC, or Chitcago.
Federal law says M58 is correct, those cities, and possibly others say "we don't care" they will bust you any way and not return your guns when you get acquitted.

#1.  There are many attorneys who now take these cases and quickly clear it up;
#2.  What are the chances of running into the issues if you are passing through;
#3.  It is up to you, but I am not going to be a sheep!  This isn't like breaking the law and broadcasting it.  This is acting legally and quietly.

If you are taking a legal gun on a plane, legally, and that plane gets diverted to one of those cities you will be arrested when you claim your luggage if the authorities don't like your particular fire arm.
You will be acquitted but you will be out time, lawyers fees, and you WILL NOT get your gun back.
