I finally broke down and ordered a Government Model in 9 MM. After being so impressed with both of my M-5 pump shotguns I got from them, I decided to celebrate my retirement, (which started last Saturday), with a new pistol. I couldn't pass up the price, (on sale from Davidson's through my local dealer for just $307.00). That's the cheapest I've ever seen them for. With taxes, shipping, etc., it came to $357.00 out the door. Still not bad at all.
I've heard a lot of good things about these 1911's from Rock Island, so it's time I found out for myself. I got it in 9 MM because It will be more affordable to shoot. And I already have a Springfield Stainless Loaded 9 MM Target Model, so I'll have plenty of extra magazines.
I've heard some of them require a long break in for everything to wear in before they're 100% dependable. The heavy Parkerizing can grit things up a bit until everything wears in. Others report zero issues from the box. When I get it I'll break it down and lube everything up real good before I wring it out. I also want to change out the grips from the smooth wood, to a nice set of double diamond checkered Cocobolo grips from Hogue. From what I'm seeing, this gun is a straight government model except for what looks like a lowered and flared ejection port, and a flat mainspring housing. Both of which I like. I just wondered if any of you guys are shooting them, and what you thought of them?
