Kmitch,  USPSA membership qualifies you.

I thought NRA membership did as well.

Are you talking  about Trey Gowdy from SC?  Is he the go-to guy for pro gun legislation?  IF so, then what do you want?  List it off.  Here's some thoughts:

  • Allow for the reimportation of all American surplus arms to be sold through CMP.
Allow for the sale of surplus military pistols through CMP and other means (ala police turn ins)
50 state and all territory reciprocity for carry permits.  (If the push for a "universal" training/testing model, make it copy the most lenient. [Alaska?])
No tax stamp for SBR, AOW, or suppressors

Have him craft the bill for this and add it to the next spending bill. (You know they're gonna pass that anyway.)

So what do YOU want?

How about we simply eliminate the need for CCW Permits in the first place, and just go to Universal Constitutional Carry. You know, like the Constitution clearly allows.
I am a member of my nation's chosen soldiery.
God grant that I may not be found wanting,
that I will not fail this sacred trust.

If only I was a member of USPSA then I'd be GTG!

A State R&P Assc would be a good route if I was in the market for a M1.
Probably should have done it 20 yrs ago when I still had 20/15 eyesight.  :P

Ok.  So let's get a list of what we want finalized and start sharing it with other gun groups.  (Handing out copies to people at SHOT wouldn't be a bad idea either.)

Repeal a gun law....any gun law. Just to show it can be done. Start with the '86 ban on fullautos.

Pull silencers off the NFA list.
Pull SBS & SBR off the NFA list.
Dump the USPS ban on personal weapons on premises.
Dump the weapons ban on federal property unless there are metal detectors and available locked storage is provided.

No new laws.  Get rid of some old ones.

So this is what I'm seeing:

National Constitutional carry (if not then National reciprocity for concealed carry using the Florida model)
Allow the shipping of firearms through the USPS
Allow for the reimporting of all US Surplus firearms
Allow the CMP to sell military surplus handguns.
Allow the military to sell surplus M-16s to those who pay the tax stamp
Allow the military to modify 50% of the surplus M-16s to semi-auto only and sell them through distributors or those with C&R licenses (for firearms of the right age, of course)
Move suppressors to the AOW list
Install and enforce high/strong penalties for airports, bus stations, or cities that disregard the federal firearm transportation law.
Install lock boxes in all federal buildings so anyone carrying can secure their firearm before going through security.  (No charge for the use, of course)
Ban the idea of microstamping
All existing gun ranges are exempt from any noise ordinances and so called lead/heavy metal pollution.
Doubling the amount of gun ranges in five years.  Tripling it in ten.

Sounds like a good start.

So who's going to SHOT?

This won't change anything, because even when the admit they are lax on enforcement they can make it look like they are trying, and then they spend more money.

I would like to see National Constitutional Carry, but would settle for full reciprocity, just like we have with driving and marrying.

Use driver's license to communicate legal ability to obtain firearms - Today licenses show if a person's driving privileges are restricted or revoked, and this could be done for disqualifying actions concerning firearms.  This wouldn't change any sales and purchase laws except that private citizens would know if they can legally sell to someone.  This would also negate NICS.

Since the Second Amendment is protection of a Civil Right, business and organizations who invite you to their establishments or events can not ban firearms with rare exceptions (no metal around MRI, etc.).

These are just a few of what I would like to see, but more here than those we elected are capable of working through.
