How long does the nomination process take to go through on average? I'm talking from selection to installation.

Historically, they're getting longer but have happened in a matter of days.

I'd guess with the GOP controlling the Senate, the president has his work cut out for him to get this done before the election takes place in November.  He could appoint a recess appointee however.

Either way, this makes it of paramount importance that the right, in whatever form, take the White House.

Not to take away from the family's grief or what a sudden unexpected departure from either side means for our government, but this will show more of the true colors of the DFL.  I expect this to be one of those tragedies that "we can't let go to waste."

My hopes are that the President would discuss with leaders from both houses and Chief Justice Roberts to discuss if there is a need for an interim appointment, or if it can wait for the next president and the next group in the houses to handle.  This would not be kicking the can down the block.  This would be respect for our system!

My prayers are for the family and friends left behind, and for us as a nation as we deal with change and try to remain civil and respectful.

Going by his past behavior, Obama will move quickly, and as far to the left as he possibly can. It his last crack at, "Transforming America". He won't simply leave without trying.

I fear what both Billt and Michael said.

They'll need to search the K street offices of the donor class.  I'm thinking this will get ugly.

Republican leadership has already said that any Obama nominee will not get a vote.  We need to make sure that they stick to it.

If that fails, we need to support the call for a Constitutional convention and make sure that we reinforce the 2nd Amendment as one of the actions taken at it.  At this point 5 states have passed resolutions and they have been introduced in many more.   If we lose SCOTUS, this may very well be our only hope.
