The Republican Clown Show that we elected had better find their balls…

mb

This is my biggest fear. Not what Obama will do, but what the Republicans won't. Thus far Paul Ryan is another gutless joke, just like Boehner, only without the tears. Ryan caved to most everything Obama wanted. He better not this time.

Obama is going to try every trick in the book to ram another Sotomayor or Kagen down our throat. The Republicans had better fight hard and stand their ground this time. The future of this country is at stake. Once the high court shifts, that will be it for the Second Amendment as we know it. They'll reverse everything they possibly can, as quickly as they can. And they won't be coy about it either. Giving liberals control of the Supreme Court will be worse than anyone could possibly imagine. They've been patiently waiting for it. They are going to go all out now that they have the opportunity.

I read an article this morning that, in the headline, described Justice Scalia as a "staunch defender of the Constitution".  This is my fear:  We have lost a staunch defender; and he may be replaced by another staunch reviser of the Constitution.

Our Constitution was purposely written to allow for changing times.  It does not limit free press to single sheet reproductions or quill and ink, and it does not limit arms to flintlocks.  It is open to allow for advancing technology.  Sadly, modern revisionists put different values on different levels of life, only 18th century descriptions for arms, and somehow find bizarre items that are our rights while ignoring where the rights actually come from.

Sorry to say I have not.  Picked it up at the library many years ago, but returned it unread due to lack of time.  Sounds like you are saying I should.

Not saying it's plausible but it revolves around manipulation of the SCOTUS for financial or other political motives.

And that is different than our modern society how?

In the book, two SCOTUS justices were assassinated!

Republican leadership has already said that any Obama nominee will not get a vote.  We need to make sure that they stick to it.

If that fails, we need to support the call for a Constitutional convention and make sure that we reinforce the 2nd Amendment as one of the actions taken at it.  At this point 5 states have passed resolutions and they have been introduced in many more.   If we lose SCOTUS, this may very well be our only hope.

A constitutional convention would give the liberals a chance to write the second amendment out of the constitution. Between the Democrats and weak kneed Republicans we wouldn't stand a chance of improving it. The constitution isn't broken it's just not being followed.
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. Letter to Alexander Hamilton, Friday, May 02, 1783

If that happens, there will be blood. Americans have had enough.

Historically, at least for the past 80 years, POTUS has not nominated a SCOTUS replacement during his last year in office.  During the final 8 or 9 months, previous POTUS have not even nominated an appellate judge.  It's a traditional rather than a Constitutional issue.  Our currant egocentric megalomaniac White House resident has shown no respect for either tradition or the Constitution, so I don't know what to expect from him.  I do know that Rubio and McConnell have stated that no nominee will move through the Senate until next year.  Pray they find some balls.  I think that's the best we can hope for.

If either Bernie or Shrillery gain the office, our Constitution is dead as is this great experiment.  Bernie keeps talking about revolution, and that just might bring it on.

We live in dire times and the outlook got a lot bleaker with Scalia's passing.  I have long admired the man, but he picked a helluva time to go.
