Ham Radio Route 66 Special Event September 10-18.
« on: August 28, 2016, 07:56:54 PM »
So you guys know I like the ham radio special events...especially the Museum Ships Weekend.

Now we have the Route 66 Special Event September 10 – 18.  Not just a weekend which makes it more likely you can catch a contact along Route 66.

Last year there were 19 clubs along the route and 2 rovers on the route: http://w6jbt.org/?page_id=117

It's a pretty cool thing I think.  Some of you guys with shortwave radios who are not hams could get some good practice trying to catch ham radio signals with this for practice.

See below for the Route 66 participating stations:

Even if you are not a ham and have a shortwave radio, trying to find and listen in to confirm a location will be educational from the standpoint of actually operating your receiver (sort of like what are you going to do when TEOTWAWKI comes around training & practice).

Here's a source to help you find the operating stations and their frequency:  http://www.dxsummit.fi/DxSpots.aspx  .  Ham operators will, upon hearing or making contact, go the that website and input the callsign and the frequency.  And, you can use the filters and input the callsigns (W6A, W6B, etc.) so that it only shows those callsigns you are interested in as they appear on that website.
