New Army Pistol
« on: January 23, 2017, 05:17:26 PM »
So the Army went with Sig Sauer Pistol. What do you guys think. They axed Ruger and Smith and Wesson early on. It was down to Glock and Sig.

Personally I think they should have went with Glock. But in the end it really doesn't matter much. If you look at past military history, very few enemy casualties have come from pistol fire. And there is nothing wrong with the Sig.

And all of the talk about buying an "American" handgun is meaningless. Wherever the company is based, the gun will be built here. Beretta in Maryland, and Sig in New Hampshire. That is to keep product flowing in the time of war. If you depend on production from other countries, it's not so much the jobs that will be lost, it's production. Look at how fast Belgium was overrun in both World Wars, as an example.

I'm not at all concerned about the cost, whatever it ends up being. If our government can waste millions dollars on the mating habits of the snail darter, and waste hundreds of millions of dollars for abortions, soda pop, and cigarettes for those on welfare, food stamps, and every other social program known to mankind, they damn well can afford to give our troops better, more modern weapons.

I like my Sig but I liked my 92F too!  Don't have any real hands on knowledge with S&W autoloaders, Ruger either...

More American jobs either way.

I have fired the M9 and it did not impress me much. I carried a radio on my back and a M16A2 then a M60, then back to the radio and M16A2. I have carried the M249 Saw, and in Iraq I carried a M4. Use to run the shotgun range in the military but they were put in crates and left until next range. No one carried the shotguns ever. I saw where the USMC went back to a 1911.

We talked briefly about it over at the thread:

It's what I said, the P320 is a no brainer assuming it's sturdy enough.  It's already "modular" which I think is over rated, but is what the military wanted from the get go.   Modularity.

I need to run a P320...it is "sturdier" when you look at it.  Does that mean it is unnecessarily overbuilt compared to S&W and Ruger...I don't know.  I do know I carry the M&P and the SR-9.

I prefer my Ruger SR-9 and have put several thousand rounds through it and a couple of thousand through an SR-9 predecessor without a failure.  It's thin and light and with a Ghost trigger connector has the very best trigger reset I've ever had.

The M&P is a bit bulkier in 9 MM but I like it.  Some of the trainers I know have tens of thousands of rounds through theirs without a problem.

Who knows...maybe the P320 runs better in mud or is more resistant sand or who knows.  I do suspect, that someone came up with the idea of "modularity" as a new mantra and the mantra made the selection perhaps over useful measures like weight, working in dirt...whatever.

So my vote is that it fit the modularity theme first....but I could be way wrong.

Just my 2 cents.

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom.
It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.

as a side note, SiG has been pretty aggressive with deals to local Sheriff Departments down here.. I live in Pasco County, and they replaced the entire SO department with 320's at no cost...that is a deal that is hard to beat

I was a radio operator in a headquarters platoon. The M60 gunner got hurt and they asked for a volunteer to be M60 gunner. I took that for a few months to get the radio off of my back. I was happy to get my radio back and drop the pig. My arse hole platoon sergeant made me turn in my sling when we were in the field one time.
