I copied that to read it all later PegLeg.

Whether it will hurt anything or not, I don't use any kind of soap to wash my cast iron. I don't need to, and I still say a dishwasher will screw it up. Anyone who doesn't believe me can try it for yourself and report the results to this thread.

All the utensils in my kitchen are stainless steel except for some plastic spoons and rubber spatulas. I scrape what I can out of the pan with a big s.s. spatula before I fill it with water. And If I'm in a hurry to use the pan again and not let it soak, I'll scrape it some more with water in it, then scrub the rest out with a scotch-brite pad. If it has cheese and stuff burned on really bad I'll put water in the pan and let it boil on top of the stove for a few minutes. I probably haven't had to do that since the last millennium.

I used to dry my skillets by wiping them dry then heating them on the stove for awhile. Then several years ago I started skipping the heating on the stove bit. I just rinse them with very hot water and dry them off with paper towels. I wipe the whole pan off with one paper towel and then another, and that's it. I never had a speck of rust so I know they're dry enough. They don't rust setting in the sink overnight filled to the rim with water either.

I don't put mine in the dishwasher either, but the guy that wrote the document maintains it won't get hot enough to harm the seasoning but should always be removed as soon as the cycle is done and re-oiled.

When i get stuff burnt on to the bottom i just add in inch or so of water, set it on high nd boil it for a few mins.  It comes righr off, re oil and in the oven.     I have also found corse salt and oil a great abrasive to remove stuck bits
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

The problem with the dishwasher isn't just the heat, it's the detergent that's so strong you're not supposed to get it on your skin. I think that's what wrecked the seasoning on my skillet. I read somewhere online the drying cycle wasn't good for it either. I think it contributes to the rust after the detergent strips away some of the seasoning.

When it's real bad I boil water in the pan like TAB said, but I rarely re-oil mine and put it back in the oven. It's good the way it is but sometimes I lightly oil it, either after I clean it or when I'm getting ready to cook in it.

All this talk about cast iron makes me want to use mine, and there are a bunch of angus burgers in the freezer that can be cooked without thawing. My stomach has been growling for awhile and I only have to wait 5 more minutes since I took a pill.

I have found that what many people think is stuck on and must be scoured will come right out if you let hot water sit in the pan for a few minutes - Very similar to other's comments about boiling water in the pan.

As I start my workday, 03:00, I sit with my laptop, in my recliner, with coffee, and old westerns or cop shows on.  They run adds for the latest and greatest non-stick frying pan.  Lately it has been some fake copper thing with a non-stick coating.  They brag that it is safe in the oven up to 500f.  Ovens go up to, and some over, 500f.  How hot do you think a frying pan gets sitting on a burner searing meat or frying potatoes?

Roasted pecans (30 minutes at 250) with butter, tiger sauce seasoning, black pepper and Tony Chacherie's.

Just like frying peanuts.... get your oil of choice (peanut or lard is what I use) up to 350? F.
A good basket of straining dipper is best.
Drop the pecan halves and time it for a minute (a minute is all it takes).
Dip out and drop on paper towels and salt or season while hot.
