Letter to the Editor
« on: September 11, 2008, 08:37:48 AM »
This appeared in todays (9/11/08) Central KY News Journal (www.cknj.com) Thought you might be interested.

Changing my mind

I was dead set against voting for John McCain. I was prepared to vote for Bob Barr, the Libertarian candidate, even though I knew in my heart he had no chance of winning.

I just could not vote for McCain, knowing all the things he had done that I do not agree with at all, such as his so-called campaign finance reform, which was a direct slap at the First Amendment, not to mention his support of closing the non-existent "gun show loophole." Let it be known that there is no such thing as a gun show loophole. The laws apply at gun shows the same as anywhere else.

Anyway, McCain's choosing of Sarah Palin, an NRA life member, a shooter, a hunter, a fisher, an all-around great lady, has really got me re-thinking my vote.

We cannot let Obama, a person who never seen a gun control law he didn't like, a person who would ban gun ownership today if he could, to be president. We cannot let a person who would turn tail and run in Iraq, now that we are actually winning the war, be president. We cannot allow this man who would take from those who actually produce in this country, and give it to people who wouldn't work if their life depended on it, to be president.

As much as I disagree with McCain on many issues, he is a far sight better than the alternative. This is one of the most important elections in years. Consider what these people actually stand for.

Please, vote for freedom, vote for McCain/Palin. He is not perfect. Nobody is. But he is a far sight better than the opposition. And Sarah Palin would be a great vice president, not to mention a great president.

Gunman, are you the author?  If so, congrats.  The letter just about sums it up for many conservatives.  We should all be flooding our local media with similar letters.  For too long, we have been shrugging our shoulders and tellling ourselves that the media is corrupt and thinking we can't change anything.  Tom Gresham is callling for a no-shrug policy among gun owners.  It's time to stand together.

Damn fine words.
Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference. - George Washington

Good words! Obama's organizers going door to door, drumming-up support. I don't see any M&P people doing the same yet.
BTW M&P sounds very pro gun, like S&W M&P :)
