When I was stationed at Ft. Polk I found out Louisiana is one of the few states to have all 4 types of venomous snakes found in the U.S., rattlesnakes, copperheads, cottonmouths, and coral snakes. Oh, joy! Plus they have scorpions, lots of scorpions. One time these 2 guys were knocking down the grass and bushes with their entrenching tools to clear a spot for their pup tent when scorpions came boiling out of the ground like a volcano erupting. They hit them with their E-tools and stomped on them, and when they were all done they snapped together their shelter halves and set up their tent... with no bottom... over the scorpion nest???

See you in the morning, I'll be on top of the deuce and a half. And don't forget to shake your boots out real good before you put them on. I saw bugs down there the likes of which I've never seen before nor since, and don't want to. During the great cricket invasion they covered the side of the mess hall so bad the building looked brown instead of light tan brick. And when they died they were thousands of crickets everywhere and you couldn't take a step without hearing 10-15 of them crunch under your boot. I'm sure I've mentioned it before. Their motto could be, "The nightmare state." When I die I know I'm going to heaven because I've already been to Louisiana.
