So how best to go about transferring slides to a digital format?  Negatives if they exist or the actual slide?

The slides can be scanned.  Do you have a lot of them?

That's one funky looking camera. I never saw a 110 like that before. It's very interesting.

P.S. I just looked at it again and this Van Halen line from Panama came to me, "Hot shoe, burning down the avenue." My mind is so weird sometimes. It makes these kind of connections.  ;D
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. Multiple hundreds to scan.

With that many, you might think about one of the services that will transfer them for you at a cost. There are automated machines that can scan multiples very quickly and with minimal human interaction.

When my dad passed my sis and I decided not to keep his slides which numbered in the thousands. We sampled some and they where mostly artsy-crafts. (Mostly jeweled eggs which he was an expert in and floral arrangements).  We had even more prints and a lot of other junk to deal with, but I now regret not keeping them. I eventually bought an auto feed print scanner and spent a year scanning in his and my own prints.  Money well spent.

Anyway, here’s a list of slide scanners.  Highly recommend doing it yourself if the number is >100 or so.

Thanks.  I'll look through what's available on the list.

I Found a Unicorn!  A long time ago I read about a lens called the Vivitar Series 1 90-180 f/4.5 Flat Field Macro (rolls off the tongue). It came out in 1975 and is legendary for its image quality and sharpness.  One came up for sale not long ago in Nikon mount (they made them in mounts for all the major camera brands), and I just had to get it.  Without further ado, the lens!

First up is the lens mounted on my film Nikon (F2A).  That's some 1970s deliciousness right there:

Here it is extended to its closest focus distance:

Mounted on my digital camera via a lens mount adapter:

Some test photos I took with the lens on my digital camera:

Extremely happy with the lens so far.  The rig weighs a ton, though.  OK, it's around 5 pounds, but I'm not as young as I used to be.  I'll shut up about camera stuff now, since this is a gun forum.
