Any opinions about whether friction alone will hold the swivel sockets in place? I started think it's possible they displaced a microscopic ridge of plastic between them when I tapped them in. If so, that would help keep them from pulling out.

Hard to say.
Friction is one of those things that has a finite use in an application like this (fit-wise).
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

I'll hope for the best, and if that doesn't work it's on to plan B, JB Kwik. The Ncstar Collapsible Buttstock Integrated Rubber Butt Pad For Comm Spec is $16.02 at ABCSportz. The Magpul sling mounts cost $34.90, more than twice as much. I would have been better off if I found a $50 stock with swivel sockets already on it. But I got what I got. If I buy another AR type stock, Ill know better next time.

I realized today that the MetaTactical M-LOK Thumb Rest on the left side of the handguard was too far forward (pic 1). I tried moving it back half of an M-LOK slot but it didn't work. Because of the angles on the inner reinforcements (arrows, pic 2), it has to be in one slot, and not straddle the space between 2 slots. This is pretty rare for M-LOK accessories AFAIK, to not be able to use 2 half-slots instead of a whole one. So, I moved it back 1 slot and that was too far. >:( So I took it back off and I flipped it around, with the curve forward and the flat part toward the back (pic 3), which had the same effect as moving it back half a slot, except now I have to use the flat thumb shelf instead of the curved one. I'm happy with it, but would have been happier if I could put it where I want, and do it the way I want to. Any ladies reading are probably thinking, "typical guy" and rolling their eyes. ;D  Luckily the Squid Grips clear it no matter which way it's facing. When I used a different rail cover I had to cut a corner off, as you can see in the fifth pic of post 1 of this thread.

I took the Midwest Industries Tactical Light Mount off last night and put it on my 12.7" AR. After I get the new one for this gun and an accessory for the 12.7" that I ordered from them today, I'll show you why. I need to have one on this gun to mount the front sling swivel. There's an anti-rotation QD socket built into both Picatinny rails, so it's easy to mount a sling on one side and a light on the other. I took the piece of junk laser off awhile back. Because it's a piece of junk. I also took a drill bit slightly wider than the slots on top of the handguard and reamed them all out a tiny bit.

Here's a side by side look at the 16" AR, and the pinned and welded 12.7" rifle. With the stocks fully collapsed on both of them, the 16" gun is an inch longer because of the flash suppressor. Without it they would be the same length. The 12.7" has the original upper and lower from my 20" Colt AR-15A2 Sporter II. It's an odd combination of a no-fence lower, and Diemaco (now Colt Canada) C7 upper with the stupid Colt large pivot pin. The 16" rifle has a DPMS (Defense Procurement Manufacturing Service) Panther Arms lower that I now use with all of my uppers, except the Colt. Four uppers for one lower, and one for the other. The upper is a plain old A1 that the 12.7" barrel came on. It was a legal-length Brownells XM177E2 clone upper. They make an 11.5" like the real XM177E2 that's NOT pinned and welded. That sounds to me like an SBR waiting to registered, with no tax stamp as of January 1st. But if you're not suppressing it, why bother?
