If it is still there, I would seek an attorney, if for nothing else, get the medical bills paid, and get some repayment for "Pain and suffering" which you had plenty of. Since these things tend to drag on, I would go for the "shock and awe" effect and sue for absolutely every penny I could get. I would guess you can get an attorney to take this case on contingency.

Yes  What Jim said!  He is right you know.

You should not have to pay anything for the encounter and aftermath.  Don't forget mileage to medical source, bandages, antibiotic ointments, sleep aids, adjustments to your daily schedule, things to calm you down including cigaretts/beer/whatever, your trip to the Animal Control location and anything else you consume as a result of this vicious attack you received.

I'm not sure, but I think I can still get an attorney cheaper than usual, through my GM-UAW benefits. It didn't cost me anything for a lawyer when one of my other neighbors took me to small claims court for removing the fence he put up on my property. A Man Who Is His Own Lawyer Has a Fool for a Client, and that fool lost. I never had to say a single word before the case was dismissed. Either way, I will be suing him. I've just been waiting until after the Christmas-New Year holidays. There will be medical bills for treatment at the clinic, OTC drugs I had to buy, damages for clothing shredded by the dog's teeth, and pain and suffering, of course.

I can barely do anything but type slowly with my right arm since the dog bit me, and I can't do anything left-handed. I can't do any of the work I need to do around the house, like fix my plumbing, and work I wanted to do to fix up my shed will likely not get done until spring. I have 2 big pieces of OSB on the basement stairs for the job that I can't move out of the way to close the basement door. Between my sore muscles and hand gone numb from my carpal tunnel syndrome suddenly getting much worse, I can't do anything. I can't even do simple housework like vacuuming, unless I only use my uncoordinated left hand. That's the shoulder that was operated on, and my arm hangs straight down like a piece of dead meat when I walk, instead of swinging back and forth. If I had 2 good arms to start with, having 1 get disabled would still be bad, but this makes it even worse. As if having arthritis in almost my entire body wasn't bad enough, I have even more pain and inflammation to deal with all day now.

Sounds like you need to hire some help.

The issue on all of this to remember is the dog owner sufficiently liquid to pay anything at all?  Be it $500 or $5,000,000...nothing from nothing is nothing.

I don't know if he owns his house or rents, but he must have something of value. Something that I deserve to take from him.

There's less bruising on my arm now, and after more than a week, the scabs that were down in grooves raised up to the surface. I know scabs are there to seal out dirt and germs, but maybe they seal stuff in, and keep medication out too. So I peeled the scabs off and scrubbed my arm, rubbed a cotton ball soaked with witch hazel over my wounds, and smeared antibiotic ointment over the whole area. One spot that doesn't look too bad still has a lump the size of a ping pong ball under the skin where one of the dog's fangs went through. I don't know if it will eventually go away, or if I'll need surgery to remove it.

Get some arnica gel.
It'll take the soreness out of the arm and speed the healing by 40%.

I never had heard of Arnicare gel.  I did read that it's toxic not to apply it to broken skin (or take internally) but that it does get absorbed and help hematomas.

Arnica is an old time ingredient used to relieve pain from bruises and painful muscles.  It's making something of a comeback these days because it actually works to relieve pain.  It's toxic if you take it internally (as are many medical ingredients) but a welcomed relief agent when applied externally.  And yes, it does speed bruise healing and relieve muscle pain.
