On another forum I yank chains on they are calling me to task for my stance.
One item is that I do not believe in a regional Bill of Rights. You can't say that it is ok to own this gun here but not there.
Another one has been the so called assault weapons, but has now grown into "sniper rifles." How do you get a bunch of idiots to understand that sniping is a skill not a weapon, and that any accurate weapon in the hands of a sniper is a sniper weapon? I thought I was going to argue with non-educated people, but one of the most intense is an Army Vet. He want's "sniper rifles" banned, because the Barrett M8291A Sniper Rifle is being purchased legally over the counter in the United States and shipped to our enemies. I have tried to point out a few facts to him, but am going backwards.
Facts:
1. The general public can not purchase an M8291A - This is a weapon only available to law enforcement and military;
2. The general public can purchase an 8291A, but no where have I found a model 8291A or M8291A Sniper Rifle in Barrett literature. The Sniper Rifle title comes from articles and interviews written about the gun. The journalists have labeled it as such;
3. Fifty caliber means very little, and if you are going to ban that size and larger there are thousands of gun models to ban;
4. The average 175 pound, five foot eight inch gang banger is not going to be running down the street with a thirty pound, four foot long gun doing run by shootings of cop cars.
The entire purpose behind a terror act is to disrupt our normal daily routine, and to incite paranoia. This one item I am talking about is just one of thousands that terror causes. The fact that our elected officials tend to look at the tree rather than the forest. They see a fire and try to put out one branch and save the trunk while fourteen trees burn around it. They then justify cutting off the one branch as the forest is being lost because "there was a problem, and you need to start somewhere." Two items are being talked about right now - .50 caliber and larger without thought of things like muzzleloaders or shotguns, and "sniper weapons" as if these guns have the inherrant ability to hit and destroy with out the skill and discipline of the operator.
