Pathfinder, I've got someone who would literally buy all the .308 he could at 20 cents a round. 1,000,000 rounds would be ok. Mini guns devour ammo. Tex is right, There is no longer any surplus .308 to be had. I have heard that countries that have it won't sell it to us because of their disagreement with the war. For sure when my friend stepped up to the plate to buy that much, the best I came up with was 100,000 rounds linked for a mini gun at 40 cents a round. 40,000 dollars to feed something that can chew it up @ 6,000 rounds per minute.
He was smart though and cornered the market on 8mm mauser for his vickers and MG42.
Are'nt we all glad we put some away for a rainy day?
I too would also buy almost anything in .308 at 20 cents a round, except maybe the Indian stuff which I do run across every so often. I have some Hirtenberger stashed too, won't say where or how much. Ditto for the hard to reload South African stuff (Berdan primed). Don't want any, uh, "visitors" looking to feed a mini-gun habit!

I am looking to get into reloading, and was looking for once-fired brass. I had a chance - once upon a time - to get some Lake City never fired brass at 10 cents, now the guy won't let it go - period, and he owns a gunshop! I was quite surprised at this guy's cost per casing for uncleaned once fired

, and even more the excuse I was given - I knew about the good surplus going to the war effort - if I were there I would want an M-14 in my hands over the M-4, personal preference. When you each out and touch someone with an M-14, they tend to stay touched.
So, I came here just looking for clarification on this guy's specific excuse. Thanks to all who have or will respond, BTW, sounds like his personal opinion rather than a reality. But, with the Klintoons, one never really knows, best to verify.
