Govenrment 1911 for concealed carry....
« on: June 26, 2007, 11:19:15 PM »
I have a Rock Island Government 1911, that I'd like to concealed carry now and then. Other than my Fanny pack, or a belly band, I only have 2 holsters for this gun. One's a Vertical Shoulder holster which requires a fairly thick Jacket to conceal, and is a real pain to draw from. The other is an M12 Military style, which is just about impossible to conceal. Tried with a vest over it, but the Butt  of the gun sticks way out. I'm thinking about trying a Bianchi Carrylok for it. But I prefer IWB. The problem with IWB, is the damned hammer is the original 1911 style, and tends to stick me in the side. Any holster suggestions??

This is a Bianchi IWB that I ordered out of Midwayusa catalogue a couple of years ago. I wouldn't want a 1911 holster without the extra leather.

Defensivecarry.com has a long list of holster links

I use a Bianchi Professional which appears to be in agreement with the first response.  The three cell mag pouch is a modified  London Bridge Trading company Ltd. pouch I added a paddle to the back of it. the spare mags stay in the truck or my briefcase & would only be carried anticipating a tight spot (14 rnds. out of a P14-45 should be enough). The holster is comfortable but wear the right belt with it (WIDE) or it may change angles, the extra leather behind the hammer & safety are a plus! Have had no problem with a lite shirt over it. ;D have never been asked if I'm carrying.

That bianchi is one of the holsters I've looked at for it. Looks like what I need. Someone on glocktalk.com reccomended a Milt Sparks Versa Max II, but I wanted to get some other ideas. As for the Don Hume, I have that one for my GLOCK and it works very well. But it's not what I'm looking for for the 1911.

KABAR2, Exactly how wide a belt do I need?

Take this with a grain of salt, as I don't (yet) have a 1911, but I can vouch for the Milt Sparks VMII.  Not only is the fit
and finish as good as anything I've ever seen, the belt loops can be changed out with an allen wrench for loops to fit
a different belt.  I've got one for my USP compact, and ordered one for my P220 Compact the day I bought the gun...
That was two months ago, so I'm about halfway through the anticipated wait - that's the only drawback to the VMII.  But
it's worth the wait.  (Also worth noting, the long delay is partially due to demand, mostly due to the fact that it's a new gun
for them.  They probably have some 1911 holsters made up already as it's much more common, but I'd call to check for
sure.)

[Context - 85% of time using that gun/holster, wearing typical business suit and dress shirt, plain black belt.  No issues,
no printing.  IWB, but not under shirt.)

Just looked at the Fist-Inc.com.  Really looks like a good set up for what ever pistol you are carrying.  I am thinking of trying one for my Para LTC.  With the available cants, either straight, forward or extreme forward and with the different belt clips and slots available it should be just what we need regardless of body size.  Give it a look it might work for you.  Good  shooting.
