Miami AW Shootout !

Just walked into the house and CNN was going crazy about a shootout in Miami. Apparently 9 shot and the BGs used AKs. Looks to me like some gangbanger work. But this is what could easily be used as the pretense for an executive order ! "you see how horrible those weapons are!" So keep an eye out over the next couple of days if BHO takes some swift action. Don't let a call for an AWB to go unanswered.

We had an incident earlier this month where the BG used an SKS to do the dirty work.

Fortunately we don't live in a media center so it got no more notice than the usual gang shooting.

I wish there was a solution for this kind of senselessness.  I do know that the solution will NOT come out of Washington.

Just a few "law abiding citizens" hanging in the hood shooting craps (Isn't that called "Illegal gambling" or something like that ?) Not saying they deserved it, but it does point to the fact that if you avoid illegal activities your chances of getting shot go way down.
I'm willing to bet that IF the shooter is ever caught he will be a Black male between 18 and 28 with a history of gang activity and previous arrests that were plead down to minor sentences or probation. I'm further willing to bet he does not get a life term for this crime. If caught he will be back on the street within 10 15 years.

It was big news here in S. Florida, the bigger news was the press conference by the Miami-Dade Police chief. I searched online for a transcript but have yet to find it, the jist of it is VP Biden has spoken with the Chief, and assured him that these evil AK's and AW's will be,......wait for it,.... "REMOVED from their availability to the public"  The criminals get them anyway, but thats not important.

The even sadder part is this happened in Liberty City, a literal ghetto of Miami where there has always been crime and poverty and riots, 1979, was the last big one..  A 30-30 Winchester could have caused the same amount of death and damage, or a pump action 12g with slugs, but Noooooooo, the evil AK gets the hype and now the Miami-Dade Police are advocates of a AWB.

I find it so moronic when the lawmakers go after HOW the person killed a bunch of people instead of WHY they did.

Let's ban assault weapons so next time, they'll use a handgun!

It's just like terrorism. The problem is not always HOW the person went about their actions, but WHY. If we address they WHY part, then in the long term, we would be working toward a society where people don't hate each other (or themselves) enough to open fire in a crowd or strap a bomb to themselves. Banning the method the person used to kill is just treating the symptom without addressing the real problem (which may be different in each case, making people THINK a little about it instead of just having a knee-jerk reaction).
