Taken up behind my house.  I have been hunting this one hard for the last 3 days, and off and on for over a month.  He was shot at a measured distance of 173 meters, uphill at a 46 degree angle. Yes it is steep.  The rifle is an Armalite AR-10 in .308 using my handloads.  Never took a step.

No rules for magazine capacity or caliber or weapon. I hunted Deer and Elk and Antelope for years with a .243, and took many fine animals.  I used a 20 round mag with 5 rounds.  Of course I only needed one, but you never know.  The previous days I had been using my 54 Cal muzzleloader, but could not get within 150 meters of him, which is too far for my comfort with it.  I am glad I did.  That is the largest one I have ever taken, and just slightly larger than the largest one that my dad has taken.  At least I was still using Irons.. :)

I also took a large one last year with my FAL.

Iron sights?  Outstanding job!  Very few hunters will ever get an opportunity to take such an outstanding trophy and you did it with iron sights!

I salute you sir! ;)

Thank you Erik, I really appreciate it.  Yes, if you look closely it is an AR-10BA2, with match Iron sights.  I started hunting years ago with irons, went to scopes, and then back to irons.  Same with a bow.  I started with a recurve, went to compound uber bows, and now am back to a longbow with cedar shafts.  Maybe next I will try a spear.. :)

The best part is I don't have to drive anywhere to go hunt, and there is at least one more that is as big, and another large 3x3 as well.  Of course you have to climb a very steep 600 foot incline to get up there.. :)  This one was actually behind my porch at 40 meters about 3 weeks ago, but I had to go on a trip so I could not do it.  Besides, that would not have been as sporting.. :)

I have never had a mount done, but I believe this may be one to get done.

I have an AR in .223, and am looking at getting another AR in .308 just for deer hunting.  Any other suggestions as to which caliber or chambering would be worth a look?  The AR-10 really looks like a fine weapon.
