need a good gun under $100
« on: February 19, 2009, 08:24:06 PM »
I have recently decided to try and get my own handgun (or rifle) for self defense purposes and would like to get one that is cheap under 100 bucks but preferably between 50-70 dollars, I have had multiple muggings in my area and would like to be able to defend myself and would also like to get more accustomed to handguns and such with how I will be joining the military in a short while. I have always had an interest in guns and know how to use revolvers and bolt action rifles along with a bit of knowledge of the use of a 45. all thanks to my cousin and grandfather, another reason I want to get my own gun is because I would just like to get my first gun and start possibly collecting guns someday like my grandfather, I don't care about a gun being used I could clean it myself but repairing it is something I am still learning.

WOW!  Under 100 is TOUGH!  Where are you located (state)?

Also look into getting a C&R license ($30.00 for 3 years). It allows you to buy older guns (typically over 50 years) and have them shipped to your house (no transfer fees).

If yo can go about $150.00 I personally own and recommend the HiPoint C-9 compact.  You WILL hear bad things about it BUT ask if they own one.  I do, I carry it and I have fired 2000 plus rounds with NO problems.  Made in the USA with a LIFE TIME no questions warranty.

Haz was kinder than I was planning to be - put a zero behind the numbers you quoted and you have an excellent slew of possibilities. For less than a hundred, I would not even want to fire something - this is one industry where you get what you pay for, up to a point. And with bho's election, the costs of everything have gone up.

Good luck, and hey, welcome to the forum. Gotta like a post that makes you think!

I live in kansas and thanks for letting me know about the liscense I actually didn't know about that with no transfer fee that is not bad I myself had always wanted a 1911 colt but doubt I could get one of them cheap since most people who have them keep them and ain't exactly gonna get rid of them, can't blame them though it is an extremely good handgun.

yeah the main reason I can't afford much at the moment is because of just how hard it is to get a job at the moment ( I have tried and failed) and with the fact that I have a very low amount of money coming in and no guarantee on getting much cash.

That varies by state.  You can buy it bit not sure about the carry license.

Look here and you should be able to find out.

I tend to see a lot of HiPoints in pawn shops, at least around here. They tend to be grossly overpriced, but at least the shop workers will haggle on the price. Try that route. Take someone you trust who knows guns to check it out for you so it doesn't go bang in your hand. Also, don't buy on your first trip, take the details down, go online, check out prices, then go back armed with knowledge.

I understand the job and money situation, I want to wish you the best of luck with getting that resolved quickly.

thanks for the info it is greatly appreciated you know it is pretty bad when an american is pretty much required to carry a handgun because of all the gangbangers and punks out there trying to kill or rob the innocent so they can get a quick fix on drugs or something, one of the things that started all this is when one of my friends from high school went to walk his kids to a nearby dairy queen and it ended up with him getting mugged and then shot 3 times when some punk demanded for his wallet, he survived and won't go anywhere without his colt or glock anymore and definitely won't go out after 7 pm, this is a pretty ****** up world that we live in some times.
