I know that I've spent half my time on this forum arguing with you, but after living for six years in the  Chosen Land (Austin Texas, USA, Hook 'em Horns!) making comments like that.... I'd rather tell my girlfriend that her skirt makes her ass look fat. To quote Lyle Lovett "That's right you're not from Texas". He goes goes on to sing, "But Texas loves you anyway", me yes; you, probably not so much. Remember Serpintine!, Serpentine!, or at least duck and cover, 'cause remember how I was braggin' about how there's competency tests to get your ccw in Texas.....

My sister DOES live in Dallas  ;D Irving any way. Younger than me, Phd, works Asst. Dean at a collage used to be a vegitarian, didn't work out she hates them all except potatoes , But I been trying to straighten her out  ;D

...that was another place Santa Ana massacred prisoners, in fact the battle cry at San Jacinto was "Remember Goliad and the Alamo"


After an hour or two of doing Alamo web research a couple of years ago, I found myself re-evaluating my opinion of the Mexican forces that engaged the Alamo defenders. 

What I found was that the Mexicans gave opportunities for non-combatants to evacuate and gave repeated chances for the defenders to surrender.  My impression was that the Mexicans delayed taking the Alamo for a few days while allowing the defenders to consider surrender. 

The impression I got from that research was that the Mexican forces were acting in a very honorable manner.

My assumption was that the non-combatants were allowed to reach safety unharmed and that should the Alamo defenders surrender they would be treated well.

It is good to hear the whole story.....Thank you.

Can it be very, very far outside of Lubbock? ;D No offense, but I'm a hill country boy. KGSR, KFAN, the Salt Lick, the Broken Spoke and lots of cold Shiner Bock. And no Tom, you don't get any.

The Mexicans DID give them several chances to surrender, and DID allow non combatants to evacuate. However, Santa Ana was so PO'd by their defiance, and refusal to accept terms that he reverted to the old European tradition, where those who surrendered without an assault were prisoners, but if a town held out until the assault was launched then every one was killed. He even issued a fair warning of no quarter, the fact that the garrison STILL refused to surrender is what drove him to carry out the threat.

Now, if you lived outside Lubbuck or Amarillo or Stephensville or even Waco, that's Texas.   ;D

Tom that's the kind of talk that gets lynch mobs going on road trips.  ;D  And the Mexican forces hardly did any 'acting honorably', just look at Goliad, duh.

But to be honest, Texans don't care much for Yankee's opinions on things, sorry. :'(

If you like Shiner Bock then you need to give Shiner Black a try...  The "keep Austin Wierd crowd" is mostly made up of folks that ain't from around there, although some natives have been infected.  When you have state gov't and the largest university in the state in the same town, what do you expect???  Still, some of the greatest music anywhere around...and some damn fine TexMex food!
