Heck yes! I have and will sell guns.
I have a BUNCH. I will always have a BUNCH.
But, truthfully...most of them are in the "fun gun" class nowadays. 1911's, Hi Powers, a Bren Ten. I don't carry anything but a Glock. I have built a collection of two of every Gock model, except the Gock 18 (lust lust lust) but even a Glock 18 would be a "fun gun" and not a serious choice as a carry gun.
That being said, I have pared my personal firearms down to three categories...Defensive or Carry Guns, Hunting Guns, and Fun Guns.
The Defensive Guns are going NOWHERE. They are a battery of weapons I have put together that, to my mind, represent the best of the breed in fighting guns. Glock models 21 and 30 for pure fighting handguns. A pre-ban Colt AR-15 A2 that the wife calls "Fluffy" and my M4 in A3 configuration, my Remington 100 with a 20" BBL, Choate Extender, Side Saddle ammo carrier, and ghost ring sights, my wife uses a Benelli Super 90 at work and at home. Her handguns are her Glock 17 she carries on duty, and her Glock 26 she carries off duty or as her at-work BUG. We each have a Browning Buck Mark and a scoped Ruger 10/22. There are also 2 Smith & Wesson Model 686's paired with Rossi .357 Model 92 Carbines. One Remington 742 Woodsmaster .30-06 and a Remington Model 700 .30-06. These are what I call the essentials. I could have these guns forever, and not NEED anything else. There are also a pair of Taurus .357 AirLite snubbies....used ONLY with .38 Spl unless 38 is gone for some reason. They are not for sale.
All of my 1911's, Hi Powers, Bren Ten, Sig pistols, single actions wheelguns, large frame Smith wheelguns, you name it....are all fun guns, or "for sale" at the right price guns. I like them for sure...but there is not one among them that I couldn't live without.
Thus far, I have been lucky enough never the HAVE to sell a gun. I have sold many, many, many, many, many guns over the years in trading for fun, or to fund other gun projects. I sold a few to buy a quad...but they were all "for sale" guns.
My hunting guns are, for the most part, for sale too. They have been bought for specific hunts, or because they were a good deal. The reality is, nothing any of these guns do, can't be done with guns from my DEFENSIVE gun stock in a pinch. So, as much as I like them...under the right circumstances....they too would be for sale.
As much as I hate to say this...and I DON'T want to sound boastful...but, I have too many guns. Some just sit for YEARS and never get shot, handled, or thought about until I "bump into it" while looking for a specific gun, or my small (very very small) stash of cash in my gun safe that my wife isn't supposed to know about. Heck, I have a 98 Mauser of no special value, other than I got it as "boot" in a trade with a feller who was moving out of state. It's kind of a neat gun, but useless to me. I have had it for 15 years or so...and have never fired it. I have a Ruger Number One single shot rifle in 7mm Mag that I got in trade for a 1978 Yamaha 125YZ. The YZ didn't run...but the guy wanted it, and didn't want the rifle, and I wanted the space in my garage. I probably would have given him the darned YZ, but he offered me the rifle because he knew I was a "gun guy". I still have the partial box of 7mm ammo that I got with the rifle. There were 6 rounds missing from the box when I got it...and there are still only six rounds missing from the box.
This thread has made me think about a yard sale...
