fightingquaker13  Not to pee on anybody's cheerios, but.....Lets remember that South Dakota just basically voted to deny a woman's right to control her own body

Oh yeah that sacred right enshrined in the constitution, that a woman has the right to have her baby, in her womb killed. You know have his or her arms and legs and head ripped off, and then thrown into the trash.
What about the right of the baby to it's life?

By the way as a long time resident of Colorado I find it to be very repressive, what with four levels of government with their faceless bureaucrats using the money that I earned to find ways to control me.
Rights are like muscles, when they are not exercised they atrophy.

It's all YOUR fault. If you quit making money for them to take the problem will go away.

I'd think that a lot of Libertarians would even be split on abortion. They believe that you should be able to do whatever you want as long as you don't hurt anyone else. right? Then the question is is someone else hurt. The video at the following link is possibly evidence that someone else is hurt. I wrestled over whether or not to post this and decided that this group seems to use their heads more than most other groups of people I know, so with this WARNING, the video at the following web page contains the most explicit video showing abortion/fetus that I've ever seen - PLEASE don't click the link without considering this. Seriously, this made me cry and stayed with me. There is a countdown at the beginning, so you can opt out.

I lived in AZ for a short time in 1990. I felt pretty free, but I was from California, so everything would have seemed pretty free.

Do I believe that abortion is right? By no means.  Do I support the banning of abortion? No.  I am a God fearing, educated, country boy, but it's hard for me to grant the government one more thing to control individiuals with (meaning the women or couples in the situation).  Also knowing that if it something that someone wants done bad enough, they will get it one way or another, which usually means some sort of back alley clinic.  Plus after seeing the campaign that the anti-abortionist put together, I would have a very difficult time siding with them.  Their campaign use to be a series of 4ft x 6ft pictures depicting basically the same thing that is on the above link, except they would show them in public areas such as busy streets and our college campus.  Basically they showed every discusting detail about it in areas where there would be lots of foot trafic, no matter how old or what sex the people were that may be passing by, i.e. little kids were exposed to this.

WAKE UP ! Abortion is a medical procedure just like hip replacement. Sometimes it is necessary, just like cataract surgery. It has been legal for over 30 years. So called "Abortion on demand" (Take that phrase and replace "abortion" with "bypass" or "amputation" and it becomes not a moral issue but an insurance fraud issue) is just another excuse to hose you for a few more tax dollars.
What you "Right to lifers" don't seem able to comprehend is that while you get all steamed about this, you are not watching the Govt. screw you on another front.  Are you to BLIND to comprehend that the ACTION is not the problem. You are no better than the pin heads who blame pistols for armed robbery.

Guys its time for a time out. I really like this forum. The helpfulness, the banter and most of all the respect that is shown for one another. Its a good thing. I fear, that in my zeal to present a Libertarian view to 2A issues, and hopefully move them beyond D/R perspectives, I have erred. I have repeatedly brought up abortion rights, not just because I believe in them, but because I thought it was instructive. Instructive in the sense that it points out that its not just conservatives, but also liberals that hold deeply to a sense of individual liberty. My hope was that by doing so, we could begin to start building bridges to the Dems based on this principle, eg marry who you want, leave my AR -15 alone, and we're both happy. My favorite bumper sticker (bought after the assination of a doctor) read "I'm pro-choice, and I shoot back". Sadly, however I have done the opposite, and brought dissention to the group over a peripheral issue when we need to be united. I reserve the right to mock the GOP, but on abortion, lets just agree to disagree and call it a day. I for one, will not mention the issue again.
A contrite

That was a well written post FQ, but come on , sometimes fighting over "best caliber gets" old.
Besides, If we can't thrash something here, where we KNOW we all have SOME common ground, how can we prepare to deal with strangers ?  Think of it as "Blackwater" for the brain.

Thanks Tom
But as a good little quaker I'll wait for consensus over whether abortion is on or off topic. I seriously don't want to be the skunk at this particular garden party because, its a pretty cool party. I've definately learned a lot and don't want to start a flame war over Roe v Wade.

I'm not going to be offended over someone having a different opinion.

Back to the topic - I live in the least free state. ;)
