I got another 25-round box of subsonic buckshot from Detroit Ammo Co. today. It was $45.95 instead of $49.95. Not a great sale, but it and the subsonic slugs are both on sale. This 00 Buck has 12 pellets instead of 9, at 1,050 fps muzzle velocity. I don't know how many foot-pounds it is but it's supposed to be low recoil. I haven't shot any yet. One of the 5 star reviews says, "Perfect round for home defense. They backup the 357 Defender. I carry one every other round in my shotgun. Perfect mix. I'll be back to Detroit Ammo for more." I have a bunch of those too.
The 357 DEFENDER from Ballistic Machinist is their best slug for home defense. These slugs were designed mostly for CQB and home defense. The main body of the slug is aluminum with a .357 Magnum bullet in the nose. The slots in the front of the slug will cause the slug to expand violently with the impact of soft tissue. Triggering the petals to break up into ten parts if it hits one sheet of drywall.
At speeds up to 1700 FPS, that makes this a very powerful and very effective home defense round. Due to the relatively light weight of the slug, it has a very low recoil that can help with quicker follow-up shots if needed. These slugs have only been tested in smoothbore shotguns at this point.
If you're ever attacked by a hoard of rampaging pumkins, this can handle them.
