Welcome to all the newbies on the site.  This turned into a lively discussion.  Agree with Tom/1911Junkie and Pegleg.  Haven't been on the site for a while.  My grandson took over my computer.  But it turned out well.  Took him out to shoot.  22/38/357, evil black gun and 300WSM.  He loved the 300, he is 13.  Just completed his Hunter Safety Course and ready to go hunting with the 300.  Happy times.

I have got a best friend in West Palm. Just had some cancer removed. He is 41. Been trying to direct him in the right direction to plink some rounds. He owns the first gun I ever purchased, a Smith and Wesson 6906.  But he is like a brother so I sold it to him. This is one of the few people who know who Ping really is as a person and best friend.

Sounds like you are on the right track to getting him started in the shooting world.
Hope all works out with the cancer thing and he can become a shooter for a very long time.

And how scary is that?   ;D

Hope his tests turn out cancer-free from now on. Prayers have been sent for his rapid and complete recovery.

I won't hold that against you, though some of the Texascans might.  I was born there too.  Wasn't raised there. moved away when I was a year old.
