That ammo in fact is 8mm and that crap is the worst ammo i have ever used. The primers need a jackhammer to make it go off and when it does that shit looks like flame thrower. The only 8mm i  trust is the M75 ball yugo.

Looks just like the silver bullet stuff I've got.  Believe it or not it shot a lot better at 97 yards than the new Remington stuff I've got!  Hard to say what different lots may have been exposed to over 50 years time and being shipped all around the world.  The new stuff's still the best bet for safety I'm sure.

What, it's so crappy it wouldn't make it all the way to 100 yards? ? ?

  I just grabbed a couple cans, fold up table, the bags, rifle, and rangefinder.  Plopped the cans down in a row, then set the table up as close as I could get it to 100 yards and have a good stable / level place to shoot.  Rangefinder said 97.  Close enough for some quick can kill'n and rifle test'n.

Did a little more of the same today at the same range using the "silver bullet" surplus ammo.  This rifle likes that stuff!  And the rifle impresses me every time I cycle it.  Solid as a rock, & SHMOOOOOTH!  Hard to believe these things were military issue from 50 years ago.  The modern military and civiian AR's I have experience with WISH they were this smooth and solidly constructed!

Even though my 1891 Argentine Mauser 7.65x54 was sporterized by my grandfather, he never messed with the action, because its fine as it is. MB has one sporterized and we both regret it. (Previous posts).


I agree it is as solid and smooth as it was when issued.

It still shoots anything my poor failing eyes can bring the iron sights on without fail.

Kicks like a damn mule, as I left the metal buttplate, but it will rock and roll to target if I can see it.

Had some 212 gr. Armor Piercing Rounds, but shot them years ago,(damn) .


Now the 187gr. BTFMJ  are great. Keep the Norma stuff in the "stash" as its really pricey.

It leaves a big perfect dent in the primer, dead center, and I think you got a real winner in 8mm.

The armor piercing stuff would be way fun to play with!  Illegal to buy now isnt it?

"Kicks like a damn mule"   Know how I broke myself of ever noticing any guns recoil AT ALL?  

I recently went one squirrel season using nothing but my HR single barrel break open 12gauge.  It's got a 18" full choke barrel, and a 3.5" chamber.  I took the metal "recoil reducer" / "dead weight" bar out of the stock so the whole gun weighs about the same as a box of shells.  Fired exactly 35 rounds (I remember each one) of the hottest 3.5" #6 shot magnum turkey loads I could find that season in that gun. 

A little sadistic, had more than a few shoulder bruises, & learned REAL fast not to go without ear protection!  BUT, I'll never flinch, or worry about the recoil from any other gun ever again!!!  In my mind, I've seen the worst the world may ever have to offer and made myself get accustom to it!  For the most part it was fun.  There were some days though...  

When you really dont flinch or even blink, It's awsome fun watching your bullets hit the targets!

While I still use that gun once in a while as a "refresher", I admit.  I wince a little every time I see it!

I regret selling my Turkish Mauser in 8mm. 
Just be careful with that ammo as its corrosive and will eat the barrel if you don't use Windex or ammonia to flush it out after a range session. Then clean it as normal when you get home.

Great find on that ammo, get more if you can as its getting harder and harder to find.
