Allright, I've talked to two very high end pointer breeders and trainers. Both were as pissed as I was about the story. They're looking up the lab guys they know and will get back to me tomorrow. I'm in for fifty, and if we keep the pledges going we can make this happen. ;D

Keep us posted on this, when they publish the names of these little thugs. We spread THAT around and the right folks will no who needs to disappear into a dumpster or desert or what ever.
Let god take care of the revenge. You match my pledge of $50 for a new well bred lab and it'll do more good giving this guy what he deserves and showing him that he's appreciated.

When we get more details on the cost of the dog, post it please.  Will be willing to add in some money as well.  Just depends on what is available to donate.

A good pup can cost 1500 dollars... several thousand for a two year old... depends on the blood. The last thing he needs is a cheap nerve bag of a dog from the pound.

Understood and not an issue. As I learned the hard way its as easy to love a good dog as a bad one. The guys I called want $700 + for pups and a started dog is $1500 if they're iffy on it and a LOT more if they want to keep it. They understood what I wanted. I know that for reasons known but to god, labs (a fine but inferior breed ;D) tend to cost more than a pointer. But I still think if we all put up the price of two boxes of ammo, and get someone we all trust, like Michael or Pincus or M'lette to handle the money and know that its going to a reputable kennel, we can do something good here. I think we should appoint a spokesman, maybe Michael, maybe Pincus to convey the offer. The guy might not even want a new dog right now, but if he does, I will bust my ass to make sure he gets one.

I got a response back from the AKC last night...I thought it would be good to post it here for reference.

We are very distressed to hear that Mr. Luttrell lost his Labrador retriever in such a horrific way.  We appreciate that you and others on the forum to which you subscribe are interested in helping Mr. Luttrell obtain a new Labrador retriever.

We have three sources for responsible breeders to be found in the state of Texas.

The first is the Labrador Retriever Club Breeders Directory.  The Search page for the Directory is located at: http://www.thelabradorclub.com/subpages/find_breeder.php
Once on the Search page, on the right, in the box marked "Search for a Breeder" click on the arrow in the field marked "Select State".  On the drop down menu which will appear, scroll to and using your cursor, point and click on Texas.  The click on the Search button.

A page listing LRC member/breeders in Texas will appear.  Each listing gives contact information, if available a link to the breeder's website, health clearances used for breeding stock, colors bred and Labrador-related activities in which the dogs bred by the breeder participate.

The second source of responsible breeders are the web sites of the two Labrador Retriever regional clubs in Texas.

The Dallas-Ft.Worth Labrador Club lists its member/breeders on their website at:
http://www.dfwlrc.org/   Once on the home page, on the menu at the left of the page, click on "DFWLRC Membership Listings".  This produce a listing of the active member/breeders of the club. Those members whose kennel name at the top of each listing is shown in dark blue have a link to their website.  Just click on the kennel name to activate the link.  Those which do not have a web site do list their USPS mailing address, telephone number and email address.

The Heart Of Texas Labrador Retriever Club lists available litters and older Labrador retrievers on their website at http://www.hotlrc.com/breeder-listing.html
Each listing gives the contact information for the breeder/owner of the listed litters or dogs.

Before contacting breeders, we strongly urge you to contact Mr. Luttrell and explain what you would like to do for him.  For most people, selecting a dog is as personal as selecting ones future wife or husband.  Mr. Luttrell may have want a dog bred for a specific function and he may have a preferred breeder already in mind, perhaps the breeder of the dog he lost.  Or he may not  be ready to replace the Labrador he has lost.  So, contact him before going any further.

We hope we have been of assistance to you.

Thank you for writing to the Labrador Retriever Club, Inc.

Sad story indeed...

I like where this is going, and I'd be willing to donate a few dollars. Keep us updated on the situation. Hopefully we can help him out.

You can never have too many guns, or too much ammo
