Mr. Pincus as someone that works in the auto biz, get the Chevy. The Dodge units suffers poor electrical design and plastic parts where they dont belong. Its like comparing a Glock to a HI point.

Maybe. The only useful thing I can contribute, beyond my happiness with the stability of the cammaro's rear end while doing stuff an upstanding citizen like pincus would never consider ;) is this. About three or four  years ago I was helping my stepdad research a new car and we looked at the consumer reports ratings of the 'vette. It had one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings, yet also one of the worst repair records. Our theory was that a lot of guys who dreamed about a corvette since they were 15 and couldn't afford one till they were fifty, didn't give a damn if it was in the shop once a month, they were just happy to have one. As I say, its been a few years but I would look at the repair ratings before I dropped 50 large. Its kind of like a Harley, you're buying more than the bike I know, but the Yamaha that looks a lot like it sure runs good for 2/3 the price.

Love to have something fast (besides my fast failing memory) but I know my insurance agent would love me and I would be spending more time in local traffic court than with my wife!

PS:  I'd even settle for a vette!

FQ,

I think your analysis of the behavioral side of satisfaction is spot on. Humans are great at rationalizing and celebrating the positive while ignoring the negative or down playing it (Happens a lot on the training ranges.... ::) ). In your example, my 'Vettes are Ducati motorcycles. For the money, they are slow, heavy and still expensive to maintain when compared to Japanese Bikes.. I overplay the handling, the 2 cylinder power band, the sound and the style points to make the choice seem more logical.... but the fact is that I just like Ducks! (1996 900SS/SP, had an '01 748 for a few years also at one point).

****

So, as much as I value logic & rational thoughts, empirical evidence suggests that I will make decisions like this based on more subjective factors. (....he says after driving an SRT8 yesterday....)

Rob, I'm sorry, was it the mullet thing that scared you from the Camaro?

You need to accept and embrace your "inner mullet".

Come on, man, where's the love? :'(

Now that's and idea I can wrap my mind around.

Mr. Pincus, here's something to consider on the muscle car front. I don't know if you're more motivated by style or HP, but if its the latter, its something to think about.

Sorry Rob,that was supposed to be a link to an auction for cop cars (crown vickys) not a really nice Townes Van Zandt tune. But hey it's a good song. ;D I don't have the link any more but the idea is sound if all you're looking for is HP, with upgraded suspension etc. It wouldn't be my first choice, but if you're looking for something that was designed from the factory to do 150 mph, its not a bad way to go. Google them  and I'm sure you'll find info.
