Speaking of Elvis...
One of the finest tributes I've heard, sung by someone who ought to be on every country station in America.
Gillian Welch "Elvis Presley Blues"
She gets it. The John Henry verse says it all.

You DO realize that "John Henry" was a Civil war euphemism for an escaped slave, also known as "contraband".

Also an American folk hero ala Paul Bunyan.  "John Henry" was one of the first "crossover' hits. It was sung by white and black musicians. Records were sold in both markets going way back. It became a hit in the '40s. Sort of like Elvis, a foot in both worlds.
Here's the original in both versions, black and white.
FQ13 who is happy to give a little history lesson here. Elvis got it. ;D
PS a bonus for Jaybet! John Jackson, an old school legend for a reason, who plays a kickass slide version and still holds on to his smoke :o. Take that Jaybet! ;D

Black version first by Leadbelly, and a good history by "The Man" himself circa 1943.

Here's the white version. Fidlin' Arthur Smith circa 1948.

Enjoyed that BIC, I envy you, in and around Fredericksburg, is some of Texas most beautiful spots to be around, the town is cool, the food is great as is the hunting. Hot sometimes, but hell, we are Texans.

Now playing, 1 hit wonder band, you all know some tunes by the opening lick, this is one, done by many, but these losers did it best in my opinion, Gold top Les Paul, done right, if you don't like southern rock, then just bypass.

Glad it was a decent tune M25, I never actually heard it - being dial-up 14KB connectionly challenged out here  :-[, and yes we are certainly blessed by being able to live around here despite that!

I was interested in the singers idea to 'start a movement' (being somewhat of an agitator myself  ;)  with his song and I contacted many of the stations on the provided list to try and help out.

Our local independent radio station with Texas music , is KHYI, you can get it on the internet, and it was listed as on request, so thanks again, agitators agree.

when Hip Hop Meets Blue Grass

Snoops Gin and Juice  done by The Gourds

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them
