OK guns clean as a whistle ready to whamma jamma...BUT...

A word to the wise to any one with a Ruger DA revolver....never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, did I say ever, play with the trigger assembly whilst out of the frame of the revolver.

As a design/mfg engineer with a curiosity for all things mechanical, cool and generally over my head, I just spent a half hour on my knees on a burber carpet searching, nay HOPING that the pawl spring that just exited the assembly at high velosity could be found and properly reinserted into it's proper position inside the assembly.

Thankfully, I have ten fingers, half a brain and the dogged determination and where-with-all to put the friggin thing back together again.  What started out as a good cleaning, mechanical check and function test turned into a nightmare that only one whos actually done something that stupid can really appreciate.

Maybe Ruger can insert a warning in their manual that states simply "Hey Dumbass, don't touch that".... ;D

I'm feeling much better now..... ;)

Trigger assemblies, when under direct examination, have gremlins that will "run off".

Kel-Tec P3AT's have part 115, the "dreaded" extractor, when field stripped for routine cleaning, will attempt to run away....

I even shot a guide rod spring for a 1911, (Tiger Woods would be proud), directly into a fish tank.

It happens,.....

Nice Ruger.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Thanks Tom,

The pawl spring and plunger combined are about 1/16 diameter and about 5/16" long.  It was not an easy task to locate and reinstall into the assembly.  My wife was saying a few prayers for me and holding the flashlight, the dog and her breath till I located it.

I too shot my 1911 recoil spring across the room and into the furnace return grate into the basement...that was a fun afternoon as well...

Ain't engineering cool???

I think it was Tom that sugessted disassembly in a bag.  I think that is an EXCELLEBT idea especially for guns we are not faniliar with.
All tipoes and misspelings are copi-righted.  Pleeze do not reuse without ritten persimmons  :D

I would have to live my life inside a bag....I'm Irish, don't ever let anyone think "the Luck of the Irish" applies to all of us...

When I drop a wrench, it will land on the hottest part of the exhaust header.  When I'm changing my oil, I will always drop the drain plug into the hot oil in the drain pan.  When I tended bar for a living, I would deliberatly break a glass when I got behind the bar to get that out of the way for the night....

I generally learn from my stupidity though, fool me once, yada, yada, yada...  ;D

Thank God for opposable thumbs..... ;)

I used to have one of those and sold it  :-[.  Wish that I hadn't but I did end up buying a Hi-power with the money from the sale.  It was a very enjoyable gun to shoot with .38 spl, and liter .357 mag handloads.

I'll leave the Hogue grip on it until I find out how much it hurts with magnum loads...

It shouldn't be to bad with the Hogue grip but I bet it will get squirmy with purty wood grips and hot loads. I have got to get one of these.
