Forum Elitists
« on: May 01, 2009, 09:55:51 PM »
The forums here are some of the friendliest and helpful ones on the web. For the most part everyone treats other posters and new members in a respectful manner.

Now for the Rant.

How many of you have stopped participating in forums because of condescending forum elitists that
wind up running the show? You know the ones that belittle the new guys asking their questions and have no time to help out someone who actually may be quite knowledgable in another field yet is new to a forum of a newly found interest. You aren't worth their time if you ain't in their clique.

I don't need to know any names or the particular forums that this happens on but would like to know how many others have stopped using a forum or just won't even ask a question or voice an opinion because of the possible rebuke or ridicule.

I am confident that most forums have alot of people veiwing that could have some very interesting information or ideas that just don't step forward because of the elitists and snobs.

I really don't have any certain stories for examples right now but there are plenty if I thought a little.

Rant Off.

I understand where your coming from. I have been on more than a couple other forums that were like that.

Luckily, most of us here are happy to be toting and talking about our weaponry, and the weapons we want to have.

I've checked out most of the gun forums,Even got kicked off one  ;D  this is the only forum I post on, for guns, or politics.
People here are special. The guy that calls you an a hole on one thread will be the first to help you out with a question in another.
We all realize that we are passionate about our hobby and our beliefs, so we don't take that sort of thing to personal.  ;D

+1000  I'm not talking about "short bus" special either.   ;D  The members of this forum are, for the most part, some of the best people you will ever come across.  They have been of more help than they can imagine, not only regarding questions about firearms, but also when I've needed support.  I'm proud to call DRTV members my extended family.

Another couple things about this forum. We are open to discussing ANYTHING that effects our lives. It's about the "Gun Culture lifestyle" and anything that effects us fits into that. As well as any subject or item that catches our interest ;D
Guns are the ONE subject that has brought us together here, but on "other interests" you can find people on here that can talk to you about anything from Music to cars, any job or interest you can think of is represented here.

Hey HBMan, I have been to other forums seeking opinions, tips, tricks, personal experiences with a given firearm, all but TWO had the "elitist" members that belittled your # of posts, or lack of some kind of stature in the forum.

DRTV has NEVER been that way! I came here over a year ago because I bought a new rifle, and had questions. NOT ONCE, was I demeaned, belittled, or ridiculed for my inquiries, silly questions, or lack of experience.

I received sound advice and the legitimate paths to explore other options for myself. To me that is what a forum should be.

The only "elitist" thing I could say is, welcome. There is a "different" group here that has a wealth of knowledge that isn't about someone buying a certain "firearm", or shooting on a budget, or anything else related to what we all enjoy.

We enjoy firearms, politics, respectable debate, and America. We all need to have a place to rant, and this is as good a place as any, plus it keeps me out of trouble. ::)

That is why I am here and have enjoyed it so. I owe a lot of these fellow members.

Plus Marshal'ette, will put the mega smackdown on us if we seem "elitist" . She is the all seeing, all knowing,....

As they say back home, these are good people here.

I quit a forum after being censored for questioning a position of one of their icons. The site administrator PMed me, he didn't refute my question, but he did make an insulting remark to me, so much for that "Christian" forum.

I have been amazed that in a year and a half on here I have not seen anyone "ripped" for their choice of gun or ammo.  Everyone talks about their favorites or preferences, we will point out issues others have had with a given make or model as a word of caution, but no belittling of choice ... unless it comes to Glock  ;)

The Three M's also do a very good job of reigning us back in, without censoring, when we get carried away.  Does anyone remember the frustration with a major manufacturer that got carried away?  I don't think it took more than a couple days for cooler heads to get us back to our semi-mature mode.

Speaking of semi-mature, has anyone seen any good sales on Clips lately ...  ;D
