Folks, let me try to explain this. There are two issues at play here, number one is what is right and number 2 is what is smart.
1) I teach Americam political history, with an emphasis on racial politics, not just black and white but looking at the Irish, the Italians and the jews (none of whom were considered white initially). I also discovered my great granddad was a Klansman back in the twenties, not something I'm proud of. The fact is that racism is very real, still alive and often manifests itself in ways we don't realize. If I had posted something similar about say Evangelicals Rastus and Pathfinder would have been all over me with both feet, and correctly so. I would also appreciate it as sometimes your predjudice comes out without you realizing it, and you need someone to point it out. I don't think M'lette is a racist or meant any harm. She is a fine person, she just posted something dumb. 75% of political correctness is just plain BS, the other 25% on the other hand is just good manners.
2) There is also the issue of what is smart. The media, and a lot of folks think that gun owners are all racist rednecks. Why bolster that image? We here on this board, by posting on an open public forum, have a responsibilty to show that gun owners are good folks. We just got done patting ourselves on the back about how friendly this place was, and it is. The question is, If you were a black guy who just bought a gun, how welcome would that post make you feel? We think about this stuff not just because its the right thing to do, but also because its the smart thing to do. More members means more chances of preserving our rights and I don't care what color you are, if you're pro 2A you're my brother in the cause.
