We picked up our new GP100 tonight...and of course spent time at the range inside the store doing some shooting. The wife loves her niew gun and is shooting really nice with it. I like it oo. Nice and hefty in the lug under the barrel make it very recoil resistant and easy to bring back on target. The DA trigger is a bit heavy but easy to overcome with practice.

So, I shot a Springfield XD in 4" in both .40sw and .45 acp as well as a Sig 226 in .40sw. In my opinion I did not care for the .40sw. For me it was too snappy and felt like it was harder to bring back on target than a .45. If I was to decide betweet the two XD's I'd buy the .45. I love the trigger on the XD. It feels like a SAO pulll. Nice and light. But it does have a bit of travel to it. So, I've decided my new pistol is going to be a .45acp. More experimentation at the rental counter will be necessary. Right now I have it narrowed down to the XD compact or the Sig P220 Carry. But I want to try some more 1911 styles before I decide.

I don't know what it is about the the 40 Short and Weak it just has a weird recoil, but the only gun I got rid of that I didn't hate myself later was a a Glock .40S&W.  If it were me I'd stick with a 9 or a .45.  I have an XD9 service, XD45 Service and Tactical all three feel just as comfortable as my 1911s do.  I never could get a Sig to fit my hand.

The Springfield Custom Shop does wonders with the triggers on the XD's.  They can shorten the travel and have an overtravel stop put in and also shorten the trigger reset.

I have two HK 45s.  One is the USP competition model, the second is the USP 45 Compact.  I love them both.   The full sized USP is used in 3 gun competition and the 45c is used for concealed carry.  I have also used the 45c in IDPA matches.

Very controlable, very reliable, very expensive.   ;D  But If you are looking at Sigs anyway look at the HKs.  They are definitely good guns.

In my extensive research (The gun shop's rental counter and shooting range) I've shot a couple of hundred rounds through 9mm, 40sw, and .45 acp in Glock, HK USP, Sig 220 Carry and 226, Springfield XD and Wilson Combat. The guy at the rental counter really teased me with the Wilson...no way I'm affording that...so that's out of the picture on price alone. Glocks...good guns but I just can't get my stubby trigger finger around that trigger comfortably. HK USP were fine but I didn't like the mag release. I had to shift the gun around too much to get to it. Sigs were really good, accurate, comfortable for my hand, trigger and mag release easy to reach, came on target to my eye really well. The XD was really good; Very controllable in .45 and the trigger was really nice, easy to reach, as well as the mag release.
Right now it's between the Sig P220 Carry or the Springfield XD in .45acp.

Did you have a chance to try an M+P? In any caliber?
