The USPs are great guns.
I've had the USP full-size in 45 ACP and 9mm, the 45 Compact and the huge SOCOM 45.
My favorite was the 45 Compact as the full size was just too big and the SOCOM is a freak

.
My biggest issue was with the 10 round (read diminished capacity clinton mags) as I was breaking the mag bases all the time. There is something about that adrenaline in an IDPA match that makes you drive home mags hard and fast. After about the 3 magazine broke and emptied their contents out of the bottom of the mag tube, I moved on. Oh yeah the SOCOM mags did this too. Yes HK replaced them but it is still embarrassing to have a $2000 gun fail outright. In a world of Compromise some magazines did.

The other thing I discovered was more about the design. The 9mm UPS just doesn't recover from recoil like my Glocks in 9mm. Yes it is about the grip angle but it is more about the height of the bore axis. Glocks shoot well, in part, because that bore axis is so low in the hand. I think I've found the best of both worlds in a new 45, smaller grip, 10+1 steel mags (not spongy plastic) super low bore axis and near 1911 grip angle. Hint: it polymer and 45 ACP and American made and has letters like S&W and M&P on it.
